Disrupting the cycle of poverty for single mothers and their children two generations at a time.
Our mission it to disrupt the cycle of poverty for single mothers and their children, two generations at a time. When a mother invests simultaneously in her personal and professional goals and the education of her children, she can re-author her family’s outcomes and act as a change agent within her community.
JP Alumni Fellows discuss their experience visiting Washington D.C. and advocating for single-parent families. 💙
When you design policy that actually works for a single mother navigating child care, employment, and education simultaneously, you build something that works for everyone.

Congrats to all of our 2026 JP graduates! 🥳 🎓
These moms have overcome countless barriers to get to graduation day. Working long hours, sometimes in multiple jobs, juggling child care, persisting through degree programs, and doing it all under intense financial strain.
Their achievement is a testament to extraordinary resilience, determination, and perseverance.
But student parents shouldn’t have to rely on resilience alone. We need policies and institutional support that make higher education more accessible and attainable for all student parents.
Cheers to the class of 2026!
We glorify the noun of being a mother — not the verb.
To raise the next generation, families must be able to afford groceries, rent, and child care.
Dr. DeRionne Pollard, President and CEO of the American Association of Community Colleges, speaks with JP President and CEO Chastity Lord about our recent report on the needs of single moms.
She highlights the disconnect between the importance our society places on motherhood vs. the resources we actually dedicate to it.

Economic mobility has no finish line. It isn't simply a degree earned, a job secured, or a promotion achieved.
Economic mobility is family well-being infrastructure. It requires a holistic investment that considers the entire family.

"Single moms are superheroes."
We’ve all heard that before.
Admiration is nice, but it doesn't pay child care invoices, stabilize rent, or replace a lost SNAP benefit.
In her recent piece for Nonprofit Quarterly, JP President and CEO Chastity Lord makes the case for moving beyond conversations about single mothers' resilience and resourcefulness to righting systems that have not been set up for their success.

Life is a lot right now. With the ridiculously high costs of housing, groceries, child care, gas, you name it, many of us are feeling powerless. Yet, our voices still matter.
In March, nearly 1,800 single moms across 43 states let their voices be heard, resulting in the Urban Institute report 'Elevating Their Voices: What Single Mothers Say They Need to Survive.'
This report can help policymakers and organizations make better-informed decisions and develop programs and resources that effectively support families.
JP is hosting a virtual conversation digging into the report and exploring these possibilities on July 22. Register now: https://bit.ly/44uzfdS

The 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act — the most significant housing legislation in a century — is now law.
Increasing the supply of affordable housing and restricting how many single-family homes institutional investors can purchase are some ways the law can positively impact single moms.
According to our June report in collaboration with the Urban Institute, 97% of single moms faced some form of housing hardship in the past year.
This law is a critical step in ensuring a pathway to homeownership for single mothers across the country.

Every day, we partner with single moms and their children as they pursue economic mobility. This work requires care, endurance, and community.
As we continue this important work, we’re taking a short pause to rest and recharge.
We’ll be back Monday, July 6, ready to continue the work. 🧡
