Are you considering repairing something or have you had something repaired recently? Reuse Minnesota is conducting a survey to understand the motivations behind choosing repairs and how to encourage more repair activities in Minnesota. As a thank you for completing the survey, all respondents will receive a rebate of up to $75.
Repair is one of the most environmentally beneficial forms of reuse. Repair keeps useful items in working condition and requires minimal (or no) new materials to achieve. In addition, repair has a significant impact on the local economy as repair jobs are more difficult to outsource or mechanize.
Here’s how to participate
🔹During the month of June 2024 have an item repaired by a repair business located in Minnesota. Repairs made outside Minnesota are not eligible.
🔹Complete the survey, https://forms.gle/JG6ftUp8o5C2JYUS7, and email a copy of your itemized receipt to [email protected] by June 29, 2024. Receipts must include the business name, item repaired, date, and proof of payment.
🔹Receive a rebate for 60% of the cost of the repair, up to $75.
🔹Up to two (2) rebates per household. One survey must be completed for each repair.
Restrictions
The following is a list of eligible and ineligible repairs. If an item you would like to have repaired is not listed, please contact [email protected] to clarify eligibility.
🔹Eligible: Clothing, shoes, small appliances (e.g. toasters, coffee makers, vacuum cleaners), sports equipment, consumer electronics (e.g. mobile phones, TVs), outdoor gear, furniture, bicycles (excluding full tune-ups), sewing machines.
🔹Ineligible: Home, vehicle, and large appliance (e.g. refrigerators, dishwashers) repairs, and basic maintenance (e.g. knife sharpening, tire replacement).

Hi Pals - Happy Saturday and Mothers Day tomorrow - enjoy the weekend. Stop in today, we are open until 5 here, 2nd floor of Art and Architecture building in Minneapolis. My favorite antique dealer Claire Steyaert posts, "Mom loves antiques as much as flower arrangements! " and it's true - a sweet little unusual thing from Claire's shop along with a small bouquet (or new planting!) would please her to no end!
Open today until 5pm
Welcome, you morning light of Spring! Newspaper, fresh coffee and just one new painterly floral pillow with ruffle to welcome the bulbs that'll soon bloom just outside the doors... vintage O&L linen, COM

Revisited some work done 9 years ago today. Love my clients - we had a nice visit. The black and grey Maharam vinyl still looks new, but the red Kirkby is cracking/peeling.
Nice mention from Amsterdam based knitwear brand Heirloom Knits - who also happens to be my lovely daughter!

Posted • Little stack of lovely textiles, props and soft cushions from for our children's shoot tomorrow.
Are you all loving the mood???
What's more joyful than new cushions in the fabric you wanted most and the whole family approves? While it may seem a splurge ? 🤷🏻♀️? . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Don't you love the clever design of this built-in??! Staggering the platform levels, accommodating the dog kennel and feeding bowls??!!! Brilliant!
Happy Monday - Studio Day, making cushions with colorful Schumacher linen, Chiang Mai Dragon, inspired by culture of Thailand - will go nicely with todays cold lunch of som tum green papaya salad with peanuts and a bite of leftover grilled chicken!
who needs any more than plain knife-edge with an Osborne and Little embroidered fabric or maybe a tiny micro cord sewn into seam of fabulous Fortuny? Tho I do love brush fringe now and then, no gilding of the lilies called for here!
Fabric Friday! I miss Kate Spade so much and loved the designs she did for Kravet. I hoarded a few when they discontinued but had some stock left. Lucky that we still offer a few of those sku's at my Calico job, just wonderful fabrics. Working with a Calico client now to use some KS designs still current in a new living room scheme with some of Kate's punchy colors posed against royal-ly indigo with reddish-orange that also holds hot pink in it and that phosphorous green. Then a private client to choose complimentary solids for cording on some Schumacher Chang Mai cushions.

Textile designers, mills and companies, give us more info on the selvedge rather than less so we fabricators can learn about the artists, know the year of printing, help us date fabrics, markings eras of style and design. This gives meaning to the lives of fabric fans and textilophiles everywhere!
Anni Albers design printed on a good weight linen from a ChrisFarr Cloth collection that I was asked to make cushions for a playroom's built-in. Working with this fabric lead me down a path of self-guided study of the life and art of this this amazing woman artist/printer/weaver. The print was so perfect you could slice into it and follow the line right up almost without measuring - boxed and corded cushions finished with the pattern aligning all by itself

I have three 1960s Hill-Rom chairs available for sale, ready for reupholstery in fabric/vinyl/leather or combo of your choice. Oak and steel leg frames have been refinished/powdercoated and they are ready to receive new padding and upholstery of your choice. Swipe to see the same style chair at Edina's Barnes and Noble cafe, where they are dressed in combo textile backs with vinyl seating. - a smart solution that founder Bill Hillenbrand would've surely approved. It was his mission in the 1920s to bring a touch of "home" to commercial/industrial interiors by adding the warmth of wood grain with a frame's solid steel structure. The design of these chairs grew from that notion into the modern era of the 60s. They are just the right size for desk or dining! DM for purchasing info - I ship
Designer intuitively adds to the mix of existing arrangements in a subtle way when introducing new fabrics/colors to a room. Chinoiserie Velvet reupholstered on round otto/taboret stool sidles up to chair and has made itself right at home. What an inviting corner, Anne!
So lucky to work with such unusual and beautiful fabrics - these plain ol Room&Board otto forms formerly in hair-on-hide have received a serious upgrade in chinoiserie print velvet. Thank you to for waving her wand thru the world of textiles to come up with this one and bringing me this side project!
I really enjoy connecting with other upholsterers around the world thru hashtags of furn styles, fabrics and traditional craft. Recently connected with thru a mutual interest in
Go follow this UK business if you love antique furniture full of character expertly restored, reupholstered and sold on. Images of Eastlake style chaise finished in Zoffany cut velvet 2014ish shows some of my process of "traditional" reupholstery - that is, handsewn fibers vs foam that make up foundational elements of seating. This 1900s mass produced style of furn is not uncommon where I live, but the customer wanting it restored period-specific is rare - in my region of the US, I will say. I continue to practice this centuries-old method of upholstery in my Prospect Park studio in Minneapolis Mn. I also teach and advise thru private workshops, custom tailored for what you want to learn, be it business of, or craft of upholstery/soft furnishings
New items on Chairish - go look! And did you know you can make offers, do local pickup or delivery? https://www.chairish.com/shop/helenmillerstudio
visited Weston Missouri's National Silk Art Museum last week on my way home to Mn. This historic small town features a unique collection of over 500 masterworks of French and English silk tapestries based on work by major artists from the 15th through the 20th century - a veritable "mini Louvre". Not just the finished works, but the whole jacquard punchcard system of silk weaving resulting in the most amazing pictorial detail, boggles the mind. I recommend this Rabbit Hole of study and fascination!
Jens Risom C120 chairs stamped 1968 restored and reupholstered in linen print Mauno/Eucalyptus have been on view at the unique shop and are now back in studio. Where might they go next? These 2 are for sale in my Chairish store, link in bio - as a pair or separate... and remember I have one more that hasn't been reupholstered yet, so a great time to customize a single iconic C120 chair in a favorite solid wool, plaid, or another great print. These wonderful iconic frames should be enjoyed, not stuck in storage! I consider all offers and I do ship!
to? Days of Yore ... what did people fill cushions with before foam? Wool, cotton, moss, hay, straw, coconut, other natural fibers, animal hair ... and combinations thereof. When asked to make cushions and do upholstery for important furnishings that were being built for the first time, for a Wright in Wisconsin's Milwaukee Burnham Block C3 home, I took myself down to our local to see for myself the scale, details of corner wrap for drop-in seats, fabrics, finish, etc for appropriate proportions and style. Paying attention and giving study to materials and methods before 1920 was important to me, then as it is now, not to mention the folks at WrightInWisconsin.org! Last photo shows the furniture in situ, frames made by Stanford Norris lll, who was a delight to work with
I miss my Lowry Hill studio, the historic and near-downtown location, the sunny and white interior that photo'd well, friends and clients nearby ... but do not miss the layers of outerwear needed to work indoors due to extreme temps outside!

Narrow panels of fabric handprinted with authentic 45 rpm soul labels soften the windows of this special combo Record room/Office of Miss Sara - renowned host along with Brother Tad for over 20 yrs, of KFAI's Rockhouse. Pleased to see 009 Textile's "Records" from 2006 out of my storage and used for this special room!
to my favorite bench in a commercial setting, the Louboutin in-store boutique at Selfridges on Oxford St, London, mid-aughts. Love the pieced patchwork and PrincessAndThePea styling of the layered seating. Have wanted to recreate this somewhere, for someone ever since - and believe me, I have plenty in my fabric stash to do this treatment several times over!
