🏡✨ **Preserving Character: A Tudor Revival, Reimagined** ✨🏡
This early-century Tudor home had its original charm covered up literally. Metal-wrapped battens masked the history underneath, but when we removed them, we uncovered both **beautiful original details** and **serious water damage**
To bring it back to life:
âś… We removed the metal wrap and replaced deteriorated sheathing
âś… Milled new wood battens onsite to match the original profiles
âś… Painted soffits and fascia to tie it all together

Common Areas for Rot in Historic Homes — New Leaf Restorations By New Leaf Restorations | Minneapolis–St. Paul When it comes to preserving a historic home, few things sneak up faster — or do more damage — than wood rot . Here in Minnesota, our freeze-thaw cycles, heavy snow loads, and summer humidity all take a toll on aging materials. At New Leaf Rest

🏡✨ Siding glow-up, incoming!
These gables were once covered in tar paper shingles (yep… really), with rot and pest damage hiding underneath.
We stripped it back to the bones and rebuilt with historically accurate cedar shakes—a timeless look that’s also built to last. 💪🌲
This kind of detail matters. It’s what keeps historic homes looking like historic homes—not just old ones.

Swipe to see the transformation! 📸 This classic Colonial entry in St. Paul’s Highland neighborhood had seen better days — with rot and peeling paint stealing the spotlight. Our skilled carpenters replaced the door sill and repaired the rot, then our in-house painter delivered a flawless finish.
âś… Scraped & prepped with oil primer
âś… Wood-patched + peel bond primer
âś… Two coats of Sherwin-Williams Duration for lasting protection
âś… Small project, big curb appeal impact!
These are the kinds of details that bring historic homes back to life — one entryway at a time.

🤝✨ Partner Spotlight: Hage Concrete ✨
We love teaming up with skilled local professionals who share our commitment to quality — and that’s exactly what we get with Hage Concrete Works out of Minneapolis. On this recent project, their crew handled critical post and footing repairs with precision and care, ensuring our carpentry work had the rock-solid base it needed.
To keep things moving, we braced the roof structure so Hage could safely install the new concrete step. Once the concrete was cured, we came back to rebuild, restore, and finish everything off with a fresh coat of paint. That’s the kind of teamwork it takes to deliver lasting results — especially on historic homes that deserve nothing less.

📸 Watch It Grow: Addition Progression 🏗️✨
This home felt a little too cozy for a big, busy family — so we built out a full side addition to give them the space they truly needed. With large windows and a sliding patio door, the new space is filled with light. We even relocated and reused an existing window to preserve symmetry in the bedrooms, and carried over the deep soffits for a seamless exterior look.
Swipe through to see this transformation take shape — we were all pleasantly surprised just how much room this added!

This two-story column had stood for nearly 100 years — until carpenter ants and the absence of a proper footing pier left it sinking and compromised. With no matching replacement available, we used a creative, preservation-focused approach to save it.
🎥 Video shows the actual carpenter ant damage at the homeowner’s property.
âś… Jacked up the 2nd & 3rd story balconies to relieve pressure
âś… Poured a frost-depth footing to properly support the structure
âś… Cut the original column in half and inserted a hidden 6x6 post
âś… Reassembled the column around the new post, rebuilt the porch floor, and patched + painted it to match

Now, the column looks original — but behind it is solid modern structure that will last for decades.

🔧✨ From Flooded to Fabulous ✨🏡
Sometimes disaster is the first step toward renewal. After a sink failure flooded this kitchen and basement, we stepped in to help the homeowner navigate the insurance process and fight for the coverage they deserved. What started as a stressful situation turned into a stunning transformation — complete with custom cabinets, a herringbone tile backsplash, engineered wood flooring, and a fresh paint job.
Now? The kitchen looks even better than before — and the homeowner couldn’t be happier.

In St. Paul, MN, we joined forces on a meticulous restoration of a historic home's gable. Our team at New Leaf Restorations removed the aged shakes and replaced them with new ones, matching the original color and style to maintain the home's character.
A standout feature of this project was the custom arched metalwork. Collaborating closely with our friends at , a precise template for the arched metal was born, resulting in a piece that seamlessly blends functionality with artistry. The outcome is nothing short of magazine-worthy—a testament to the power of skilled craftsmanship and collaboration. Together, we're not just restoring homes; we're enhancing the architectural beauty and history of our neighborhoods.

This home felt a little tight for a growing family — so we gave it the breathing room it needed with a beautifully integrated full side addition. With tons of natural light from new windows and a sliding patio door (plus one relocated to keep symmetry), the space feels like it’s always been there. Deep soffits and thoughtful details tie it seamlessly into the original structure — and the transformation surprised even us with how spacious it turned out!
