If you fit for the criteria for this fellowship, or know someone who might, we strongly encourage you to look into this! The deadline is December 10th, 2021. If you need of a reference, or have any questions about CABS/ want to hear about our personal experience please don’t hesitate to reach out!

CABS-Minnesota is committed to diversity in the antiquarian and rare book trade. We believe that a diverse and inclusive trade will benefit both the trade and the cultural heritage community at large by expanding perspectives and encouraging new collaborations. CABS-Minnesota has established the Diverse Voices Fellowship to build a cohort of five fellows who have a strong interest in learning more about the antiquarian book trade and have found themselves isolated or distanced from the trade by reason of race, gender, sexual orientation, disabilities, and/or income. The fellowship will offer a program of professional and career development designed around fellows’ interests. If you are eligible please consider applying via the link above or at https://form.jotform.com/212774675630158

Godfather of the Twin Cities film scene Al Milgrom dies at 98

We're honestly surprised at this news, despite that fact that he was 98. Al's presence in the U of MN/Dinkytown community was large, vibrant, and farther reaching than you may know. We're going to miss him barging into the shop to rope us into one of his projects, or pick Kristen's brain for usable pieces of Dinkytown's history. RIP AL!

As far as we know, our shop remains the only place you can pick up his magnum opus (in our eyes at least) The Dinkytown Uprising. He was slipping us 5-10 copies at a time, so supplies are fairly limited. All proceeds will go to Al's estate until we hear otherwise. Link to buy online is in the comments.

Finally, if anyone has a photo of Al in his “Yes I’m Still Working On My F*****g Documentary” shirt, please forward.

Excited for our friends and neighbors, as well as the general coffee situation in Dinkytown!!

Welcome to Gray’s! Coming December 7th

Have a cup of coffee, try some of our house-made specialties, read a book, catch up on homework, stay for happy hour, soak up the atmosphere, be inspired.

If you’re in a hurry, our coffee & tea drinks, as well as grab-n-go food are perfect fuel for your day.

Gray’s values are reflected in everything we offer: local, sustainable, independent, and creative. That means local coffee roasts, compostable drink packaging, taps from small breweries, food made from scratch daily on the premises, partnering with other local businesses, and an eclectic roster of local artists and musicians.

We’ve seen the neighborhood transform over the decades. For over 100 years, our corner has been a pillar of Dinkytown since its inception: from the first streetcar terminal, a school supply company, one-time home to Bob Dylan, campus drugstore (Gray’s Drugstore), to a fine dining establishment and nightclub.

Gray’s honors that history and continues a long-held tradition of serving the University of Minnesota community and beyond by providing a place to escape the sameness of fast food chains and corporate coffee shops. We are committed to doing our part in preserving historic Dinkytown.

Stop by and discover the possibilities!
