Versacon just wrapped up another successful project—this time at the Luxton Recreation Center in Minneapolis! The 2,125 SF renovation of the two-story building included new gypsum board walls, upgraded flooring and ceilings, enhanced lighting, updated windows, fresh paint, detailed millwork, and the addition of two single-use toilet rooms.

Celebrating Versacon’s 2024 MVP & Leadership Award Winners

This year, we recognize two outstanding team members who have gone above and beyond to drive success at Versacon.

MVP Award: Kurt Gillund
Kurt had a standout year, securing major wins like the Wakan Tipi Center and the Heywood Office Remodel for Met Council—our largest awarded project to date at $14.2M. These projects made up half of Versacon’s 2024 backlog, showcasing his impact in estimating and project success. On top of that, he kept multiple projects moving while mentoring younger team members and stepping up on bid days. Kurt’s leadership and dedication make him more than deserving of this year’s MVP Award.

Leadership Award: London Thurman
London is the definition of reliability and leadership. He consistently earns praise from owners and subcontractors, always answering the call and doing whatever it takes for the team. His positive mindset makes him a joy to work with, and he leads by example in everything he does. His dedication to team success and collaboration makes him the perfect recipient of the 2024 Leadership Award.

Elevators are going in at our Ford Tunnel project! This project consists of a small Building with an elevator and stairwell that ties in to an underground tunnel connecting to the state office buildings to make the winter months more bearable for employees in downtown Saint Paul.

We had an amazing time celebrating our 2024 holiday party at Acme Comedy Company. The food was great, and the jokes were hilarious! 13 employees went home lucky winners of gift cards, experiences, and even a week of PTO! We also announced the winners of our MVP and Leadership Award (stay tuned!). It is always a fun time when we can get the entire company together. Thank you, Acme Comedy Company for hosting a great event!

Congrats to Zac and our entire field staff crew for being presented with the OECS - Workplace Safety Experts Workplace Champion Award. We appreciate your hard work and attentiveness in keeping our jobsites safe!

Congratulations to Zac Frane from Versacon Inc for winning the OECS Workplace Champion Award. Safety within a company starts at the top and Zac and Chuck are great examples of that! On Versacon jobsites, the crews know safety is a top priority and they commit to keeping their sites clean and safe. Safety is not just a word, it’s ownership. These leaders embrace and encourage a safety culture each and every day!

Another great year celebrating our legacy event! This annual event is offered to employees who have been at Versacon for five or more years. Each year looks a little different! This year the team headed to the Fogerty Ice Arena for a curling session. It was a great time on the ice!

Versacon recently completed the construction of a MNDoT Vehicle Inspection Building for the Minnesota Highway Patrol. This facility will support semi-truck inspections while providing Highway Patrol inspectors with shelter from Minnesota's harsh weather conditions. A big thank you to all our partners for their contributions!

After finally getting underground utilities installed, Kelleher Construction was able to install Radon barrier ahead of 2 layers of bar 8" center. Inspections happened and concrete started pouring Friday morning 11/15. 330 yards later we are beginning to frame exterior walls.

We're thrilled to introduce Erika, our new Assistant Project Manager! When she's not diving into exciting projects with us, she's busy crushing it in the gym with her strength training routine. Erika also runs a small, sweet treats business with her mom—how sweet is that?!

Versacon has completed the demolition of the 55,000 square feet of office space for Metro Transit at their Fred T. Heywood Headquarters building. The project comprises a complete gut and replacement of the old mechanical and electrical systems to bring the building up to modern standards. The new design is well underway with the MEP rough-ins and we look forward to watching the project evolve.

Last week we had our Field Staff in for our annual appreciation lunch at the office. We were glad many of them were able to attend as it has been a busy summer and start to fall. A small token of appreciation for well-run projects and happy customers. We are grateful for all their hard work and dedication to our projects. Thank you to the field for showing up every day and collaborating as a team.

We’re hitting it out of the park with this team! At Versacon, we believe that a strong team is the foundation of our success! To celebrate our hard work and build stronger connections, we took some time to enjoy a fun-filled staff outing.

Yesterday we attended the 2024 BUILT Career Showcase at Minnesota State University, Mankato! It was a great time connecting with the students and faculty about their experiences in the Construction Management Program. We had the opportunity to meet many enthusiastic candidates who were well-prepared with engaging conversation. We enjoyed learning about their backgrounds and professional goals, while also sharing the history and vision of Versacon. Big thanks to the Construction Management Women’s Association (CMWA) for hosting such a great event!

As the new school year kicks off, we're proud to be part of the journey of creating safe and inspiring learning environments. Our team at Versacon has been hard at work, ensuring that schools are ready to welcome students back for a year of growth and success. At Plymouth Creek in Wayzata School District, we completed phase 2 of a two-year project. The project included new architectural finishes, mechanical and electrical upgrades as well as the construction of a new mother's room for staff, and school restrooms. Here's to a bright and successful school year ahead!
