Tasting tonight!! Leaves of the Veneto: An Evening with ๐๐ฎ๐น
Harvest has come and gone; the vine leaves in the Veneto are turning a brash shade of red, and the winemakers are scuttling about to make sure all Amarone, Valpolicella, and Soave is bubbling into future deliciousness.
Tonight we take you on a journey to northern Italian with the singular wines of Cantina Zeni. One could say Zeni has developed a well-established reputation in the region, first appearing in 1870 as goods merchants (including wine), and continuing the traditions of estate winemaking through to the present. An historic, if not iconic, family.
Tasting:
Soave Classico
โMr. Lakeโ Bardolino
Valpolicella
Valpolicella Ripasso
Amarone Classico
$19/person. No reservations needed. We taste at 6pm!

Speaking of the art of wineโฆ we ended our trip to beautiful champagne with a morning visit to the newly renovated & reopened , the oldest champagne Maison in the region, dated 1729. It was simply stunning. From the sculpture gardens to the maison to the modern, clean, bright new tasting room - the beauty of this special place matches the exquisiteness of the champagne. Just a wonder and a delight. And yes a few magnums left doorโฆ ๐พ๐

Champagne, troisiรจme partie ๐๐พ
In รpernay sits a lovely champagne maison, - 100% organic and biodynamic, LeClerc Briant brings nature & finesse to the forefront of their wines, using a variety of aging methods & containers like terracotta, oak, titanium lined tanks, and one very special gold-line tank for an extremely limited (1000 bottles) offering. We also got to sample their vin clair (third photo), which is a when the champagne has completed its alcoholic fermentation (the first fermentation) and is ready to be blended with other wines before being bottled (and thus begin its second fermentation - to get the bubbles!) ๐พ
Merci for a lovely visit!

, the second cave during our stay. It is simply spectacular. Since its beginnings in 1760, Lanson has crafted exemplarily wines, particularly beloved by royals and of course, the average Jerel & Rebecca. Their caves are particularly fascinating as they were, during the First World War, a place in which residents of Reims lived to keep safe from bombing and destruction. By 1918, 90% of the city of Reims was destroyed. Rebuilding of the town & the Maisons began in the 1920s. The fifth photo is of a current cave, built in the 70s. Floor to ceiling champagne? Forever heaven.
Thank you so much for a wonderful tour Lanson. ๐

Tasting this week! Spooky Orange Wines ๐ท๐
With the changing colours, the pumpkins, and the general Autumnal goings-on, weโre welcoming October with Orange wines from our friends at ๐
What is orange wine? Well, the combination of long contact of the pressed juice with the grape skins, plus a little oxygen over the course of months will make a white wine into an orange wine.
No oranges were harmed in the making of these wines!
So what do they taste like? Flavor profiles are so different than any other type of wine that we love to let the wines talk for themselves but one will often find notes of salted apricot, mirabelle plum, herbs, blood orange, and red fruits.
6pm to 8pm friends! This Thursday, October 3rd. $18/person, no reservations needed. ๐ท
