For twenty years, I've been releasing my own music. Seventeen albums. No label, no gatekeepers.

I am spending this year building Valt and seeing what is possible with digital cooperative networks of creative people and their works.

Valt is a Web3 artist portal on Cardano, built by my studio, Awen. You publish songs as digital collectibles and sell straight to the people who actually listen. No middleman. Every artist gets a token-gated space where supporters unlock demos, drops, livestreams, and access.

Valt is infrastructure for a new digital economy.

I am testing this in public alongside other independent artists who want to be a part of a new digital economy.

Tune in this Tuesday at 6 p.m. for another Local/Live with Cullah, hosted by WMSE Music Director Sid McCain and Milwaukee Record's Matt Wild.

Since 2006, Cullah has released a new open-source album every April 27th from his Milwaukee studio. Blending folk-acoustic textures with electronic production and a distinctive, generational vocal style, his catalog now includes 17 full-length albums. His 2022 release Firebird earned the 2023 WAMI Award for Album of the Year.

Cullah will also discuss his recent reimagining of Camille Saint-Saëns' 1874 Danse Macabre, created for the Medical College of Wisconsin's Project Wonder. The piece reinterprets the classic work through the experience of stroke care in a hospital and appears on his latest album, Cú Chulainn.
