We specialize in NFPA 1670 and 1006 compliant swiftwater and technical rope rescue. Certification is good for three years.
Great Lakes Technical Rescue was established in 2011 as an authorized independent instruction unit for Rescue 3 International, http://www.rescue3.com/. We offer swiftwater awareness and swiftwater rescue to any individual or organization that works on or near water to include private boaters, anglers, and water enthusiasts. Technical rope rescue classes both high angle rescue and low angle rescue

Everybody is feeling lazy when we get home from a week of swiftwater training. Alas, gotta get to cleaning the sand (Menominee River) and mud (Peshtigo River) off the gear so we can head over to whatever the Baraboo River has in store for us next week!

Be sure to keep your rope tangle-free when making a secondary throw. Holding your coil hand steady helps keep the wings of the Butterfly untangled. Another option is the TRU method.

Before you get wet be sure to read the water.
Look for danger spots: strainers, holes, upstream Vs, sieves, obstructions.
Make note of the safe areas: downstream Vs, eddys.

Before you get in the water make sure you have the proper gear: helmet, exposure suit, gloves, boots, PFD
