We live in a democracy.

A government by and for the people.

A government of our collective will and wishes.

According to the FBI statistics: Guns are a public health and safety menace.

Then it goes to say…

DEATH, MURDER and SU***DE are not things we’d wish on anyone. Not even our enemies.

Why then do we WISH them upon ourselves?

Why then do we WILL them upon our communities?

Where is the disconnect?
Are we not in control of our government?
Does it not express our WILL and WISHES?

Something is broken.
Is it us?
Is it the system?
Is it both?

1. The 45,222 total gun DEATHS in 2020 were by far the most on record, representing a 14% increase from the year before, a 25% increase from five years earlier and a 43% increase from a decade prior.

2. Gun MURDERS, in particular, have climbed sharply in recent years. The 19,384 gun murders that took place in 2020 were the most since at least 1968.

3. The number of gun SU***DES has also risen in recent years – climbing 10% over five years and 25% over 10 years – and is near its highest point on record.

What the data says about gun deaths in the U.S. In 2020, the U.S. experienced a record number of gun murders, as well as a near-record number of gun suicides.

Spent some time in Highland Park yesterday. Your town. My town. We’re sick. A National mental health crisis soup to nuts.

A reinforcing feedback loop. Stress anxiety fear tragedy fear anxiety stress. We gotta figure this out. An existential crisis especially for our youngins.

This doesn’t need to happen. Ever. Almost never happens in other countries.

Talk to your kids. Talk to your neighbors. Who needs help? Find them. Listen. It’s the greatest gift we can give to another person. Our undivided attention.

Reform. Policy debate. Yes all that. A hundred times.

But for now. Listen. It’s free. Easy to do. Find someone. And listen.
