Versiti Blood Research Institute Senior Investigator Debra Newman, PhD, was recently awarded more than $2.2 million from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute to expand understanding of fetal/neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopenia (FNAIT). These funds will enable researchers to tackle unresolved problems in , determine why FNAIT develops in some pregnancies but not others, and understand why some babies with FNAIT experience excessive bleeding in the brain.
