There have been recent reports of illegal school bus passings in Wisconsin. School bus drivers and students should not have to worry about vehicles passing buses illegally. It’s dangerous and preventable.
There were 1,276 traffic convictions for failure to stop for a school bus last year. STOP🛑at least 20 feet from school buses with flashing red lights. The only exception is if you are traveling on the other side of a divided road that’s separated by a median or other physical barrier.

With great power comes great responsibility… that’s why, in Wisconsin, teen drivers go through our three-step graduated driver licensing (GDL) process.
Teens must first go through a Wisconsin certified Drivers Education program that includes classroom training to obtain an instructional permit, and complete behind the wheel training. Once all the required training is complete, they will qualify for a road test to obtain a probationary driver license.
For the first nine months after receiving their license, teen drivers are subject to passenger and driving hour restrictions. More details here: https://wisconsindot.gov/Pages/dmv/teen-driver/yr-frst-lcns/gdlfaqs.aspx
Great News from the State of Wisconsin!!!
Students who qualify for free/reduced lunch may apply to have their classroom and behind-the-wheel driver training for a Class D (Regular) driver license paid for through the Driver Education Grant Program. Students with grants can enroll in any driver education program offered by an authorized driver education provider. The tuition will be paid directly to the Driver Training school.

ROAD TEST WAIVER PROGRAM ENDING: The Wisconsin Road Test Waiver program will end on Dec. 31, 2023. All student drivers under 18 will need to complete in-person road tests at DMV locations starting Jan. 1.
The Road Test Waiver pilot program began in May 2020, at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. As part of the pilot, the Wisconsin DMV tracked potential safety implications and found no negative effect on driver safety. As of Aug. 31, over 130,000 people have utilized the road test waiver.
