As summer approaches, let’s continue working together to keep our community safe and positive for our young people. A reminder that the City Code of Ordinances includes accountability measures related to ongoing juvenile misconduct.

This is always a last resort. Our focus remains on prevention, engagement, and ensuring our youth have positive opportunities to thrive. Parents and guardians play an important role in helping guide our young people toward success.

Let’s stay proactive, supportive, and committed to safe neighborhoods for everyone.

DPW Winter Weather Operations

Weather Update: Current snow measurements across this City vary from 3-6” with heavier snow amounts on the north side; an additional 2-3” of snow is possible today. Snow started with a high moisture content, making it heavier, but has transitioned to a lighter snow; with significant blowing and drifting on streets. Cold temperatures are expected Tuesday, with temperatures warming as the week progresses.

DPW Snow and Ice Control Response: Salt trucks began addressing the streets when the rain transitioned to sleet and mounted front blades in preparation for the snow. Equipment was able to address some residential streets, but had to shift to main streets when the snow started picking up and we saw blowing and drifting. Garbage and recycling trucks are assisting with today’s plowing effort.

Due to the long duration of the storm, residents should expect travel impacts throughout the duration of the storm and 24-48 hours after the snow has stopped as equipment efficiently works to address every street. DPW remains fully staffed and dedicated to making all roadways safe and passable at speeds appropriate for winter conditions.

As residents completed a special leaf rake out, DPW will make every effort to not plow leaves onto the tree lawn. As temperatures are expected to be in the upper 40’s by Thursday, snow should be expected in parking lanes to limit leaf impacts for residents.

Snow and ice control service requests will be available after the snow event as plows work their way through every street as efficiently as possible.

DPW Leaf Collection Update: DPW’s special spring leaf collection was scheduled to start today (March 16th); unfortunately this storm means leaf collection will be delayed until snowmelt allows operations to proceed. DPW appreciates residents’ patience and cooperation as we manage multiple operations. The fall leaf collection was impacted by an early heavy snowfall, freezing temperatures, and frequent snow and ice control response events. A full leaf collection cycle of the city will be completed. For the latest updates, visit milwaukee.gov/leaves.

Garbage & Recycling Collection – Monday’s garbage and recycling collection have been suspended. Residents should set out their cart on the regularly scheduled collection day and leave at the collection point until serviced. Snow and ice on top of and around the cart must be cleared with a clear path for the cart to be rolled to the truck for collection. You can confirm your regular collection day or look for updates at: milwaukee.gov/collectionday

Parking – No impacts at this time. As winter parking regulations ended March 1st, parking lanes will be snow impacted on main and residential streets through cleanup operations and until temperatures rise. Should a Snow Emergency be necessary; updates would be shared through the media, aldermanic/elected emails, text alerts (sign-up at milwaukeeparkingalerts.com), on social media accounts and posted on DPWs website.

DPW Winter Weather Operations

Weather Update: The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the City of Milwaukee starting Saturday evening (March 14) through most of the day Monday (March 16). Today’s forecasts for the storm have improved to 5-8” of snow expected; starting Saturday evening through most of the day on Monday. With warmer March temperatures, the snow is expected to be heavy due to the moisture content.

NWS has also issued a high wind warning for Milwaukee, with wind gusts of up to 60 mph expected through this afternoon.

DPW Forestry Response: Forestry emergency response crews are responding to emergency requests involving trees or branches blocking the public right-of-way. Please be patient as crews work to safely and efficiently open the public right-of-way. This work is highly technical and presents significant safety risks to the public and City workers.

The priority is trees that are completely blocking streets and those on homes or vehicles. Once those are addressed we would shift to tree/branches partially blocking streets/sidewalks. Sunday may bring additional tree damage due to high winds, heavy snow, and/or freezing rain.

DPW Snow and Ice Control Response: Employees have been notified of likely emergency operational response this weekend. As snow is always expected in March, equipment remains ready to respond.

Service Requests: The best way to submit a request for emergency Forestry response is at milwaukee.gov/clickforaction or the Milwaukee Mobile Action App. This ensures the request is routed directly to the correct Forestry area. Pictures are also helpful to help crews prioritize effectively.

Search for Request Types:
Tree or Branch Down – Includes questions to assist in prioritization

Did the tree or branch come from between sidewalk and street?

Is the tree branch on the ground?

Is the tree blocking the street and/or sidewalk

Can someone pass the tree or branch or move it easily?

Is the tree or branch on a vehicle or house?

Can the tree/branch on house/vehicle be moved?

If the tree/branch is on a house, can the house be exited safely?

Is tree/branch blocking entire street, dead-end, or cul-de-sac?

How thick is the branch?

How long is the tree or branch?

Broken Branch Down – Not Blocking (non-Emergency) – To be used for pickup of branches from a City tree that does not require emergency response.

Brush Pickup Request - For collection of branches from private trees by Sanitation Services. Branches should be less than 6” in diameter and no longer than 4’. Larger items can be taken to the Drop Off Center at no charge.

Snow and ice control service requests will be available after the snow event as salt trucks work their way through every street as efficiently as possible.

🍂 Spring Leaf Cleanup – Rake Out by March 15

DPW is offering a one-time spring leaf cleanup opportunity. Residents should rake leaves into the street by Sunday, March 15, leaving a one-foot gap from the curb. The final collection cycle begins Monday, March 16, and no request is needed for leaves raked into the street.

For the first time outside of Project Clean and Green, residents may place leaves in compostable paper lawn bags for curbside collection during this limited period. A Leaf PickUp request must be submitted by March 15 at milwaukee.gov/click4action, the MKEMobileAction app, or by calling 414-286-CITY. Plastic bags will not be collected.

Learn more and track collection progress starting March 16 at milwaukee.gov/leaves.

My Statement:

02/17/2026

As dedicated public servants, we feel passionately about the City of Milwaukee and our role in shaping policy within it.

However, we do need to be sure we are balancing that passion with a spirit of collegiality, and both I and Ald. Zamarippa have an opportunity to better represent our districts in this way.

Though it is true that we both raised our voices in reflecting how strongly we felt about our position on the issues, it is a mischaracterization to suggest that because I am a man who raised his voice, anyone was in harm's way or their safety was in question.

In Service,

Ald. Mark Chambers Jr.

Our family received news today that the suspect accused of taking the life of my 16-year-old nephew, Marquis Champion, has been arrested in Oklahoma City.

This brings us great relief knowing we’re one step closer to justice for Marquis and the two young men who were also shot that night.

We want to thank the U.S. Marshals, Oklahoma law enforcement, Milwaukee Police, the Milwaukee County DA’s Office, Crime Stoppers, Hupy and Abraham, CBS 58’s Amanda Porterfield, and other media organizations for helping keep Marquis’ story visible.

And to everyone who has shared kind words, condolences, and prayers, thank you. Your support has meant everything to our family.

Today, Crime Stoppers announced a $25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspect in my nephew Marquis Champion’s murder. Marquis was only 16 when he was senselessly taken from us on October 20.

Please, if you know anything that can help bring his killer to justice, contact Crime Stoppers at (414) 224-Tips or P3 Tips, or Milwaukee Police at (414) 935-7360.

Thank you to Crime Stoppers and Hupy and Abraham for their generosity and support of finding justice for not only Marquis but for families throughout Milwaukee.

A week ago, my 16-year-old nephew, Marquis Champion, was tragically killed in a triple shooting near 79th and Hampton. Two other young men who were with him were also shot but survived.

Marquis was full of life and joy. He wasn’t a troublemaker, just a good kid with a big heart and bright dreams ahead. Our family is heartbroken and grieving deeply.

As we prepare for his funeral, we ask for privacy, prayers, and understanding during this painful time. Today, the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office filed charges against Martell D. Haire in connection with his murder.

Please keep our family and the two young men recovering from their injuries in your prayers.
