Lloyd Street Bees 2025 local WI mite resistant VSH nucs are now available for preorder in our online shop! Lloydstbees.com/shop

Why our nucs? We only use our own mite resistant bees that have overwintered here in WI. We don't sell you someone else's bees or bees that have spent their "winter" down south or out west. Our overwintered nucs are proven winners for experienced beekeepers and our spring nucs are perfect for those still learning how to be a great beekeeper. We also offer full size colonies for sale for anyone that really wants to get going fast in the spring.

For the very experienced beekeepers out there, we also offer artificially inseminated breeder queens. We have both overwintered and spring breeders available for preorder.

Preorders for overwintered and spring nucs will begin soon. Subscribe to our email list (link in bio) now to get notified once it begins and reserve your bees. In the meantime, enjoy this photo from the bee yard the other day of the bees enjoying some fun in the winter sun!

The winter bees are making cleansing flights today with this nice weather. Make sure to move your car out of the line of fire, especially if it’s white lololol. 🐝🐝🐝

It’s October and we are still staying busy. We made a visit to the Madison beekeepers club yard to help out with their mite counts and help advise winter preparation. Thanks to everyone that showed up! Lloyd St Bees will be presenting at the WHPA fall convention this weekend in La Crosse! There will be a presentation on the use of virgin queens followed by a panel discussion with our good friend Adrian Quiney. Join us!!!

We performed mite counts on all our colonies this week at Lloyd St Bees. A big thank you to Zac and Nate for processing countless bee samples. If you haven’t tested and treated your bees yet this month, the window is closing fast.

We have been spending some long hours building up a surplus of artificially inseminated queens for next season. We have been installing them into our nucs to overwinter and be graded in the spring. Keep us in mind for your overwintered breeder queen needs in 2025.

What have we been up to? We have been busy working on a project with the USDA honey bee lab to compare the overwintering behavior of their poline stock to our local VSH stock here at Lloyd St Bees. We hope to have some exciting data to share next spring!

We were checking a colony that had swarmed the other day and found this virgin queen that had recently gone on a mating flight. You can see a portion of the drone phallus, mating sign, still attached to her body from her flight.
