Knotty Prayers is a ministry of First Presbyterian Church in Milton, FL, creating hand knit and crocheted items to provide comfort to those in need.
Our Knotty Prayers Ministry began as a Prayer Shawl Ministry in 2011. Since then, our volunteers have provided prayer shawls to many members of our community, as well as across the country. This ministry is composed of volunteers who serve God by using their time and God-given talents to create prayer shawls and other items to bring comfort and solace to those in need. In 2015, our members chose to change the name of our group to "Knotty Prayers" to symbolize what we do - creating items of warmth and comfort by tying orderly knots while we pray that God unravels the "knots" in the recipients' lives. Our name change allows us to encompass other forms of outreach within our group, for example hats and scarves for the homeless, chemo caps, NICU caps, lap blankets, and more. As we create each item, we pray for continued blessings to follow and that the recipient will feel loved and cared for. We also pray that they will never feel alone and can always feel God's spirit. When one of our creations is presented to someone, it is a visible expression of care, concern, and God's love. We welcome donations of yarn and supplies. We are always in need of: Lion Brand Homespun yarn (3 - 4 skeins makes one shawl or lap blanket); and soft, worsted weight yarn such as Lion Brand Heartland, Caron Simply Soft, or Vanna's Choice, in soft colors (20 - 24 ounces will make one shawl or lap blanket). We also have volunteers working on tied fleece blankets for a local shelter for homeless children, so we welcome donations of fleece for this project as well. Two pieces of fleece fabric, each 1 1/2 yards long will make one blanket. Your donations of money and materials will allow our ministry to provide more items for those in need and continue spreading the gift of unconditional love! We invite anyone who is interested in participating in this ministry to join us at our monthly meeting on the 4th Saturday of the month at 10:00 a.m. in fellowship hall. If you do not know how to knit or crochet, that's okay! Our members will be happy to help you learn! See you soon!

Knotty Prayers will be meeting Saturday, May 22, 10:00 a.m. This month's location is at Magellan Cafe coffee shop on Hwy 90 in Milton, a white building across from Lewis Funeral Home. The sign you will notice first is for a vape shop. The coffee shop is located in the front of the building, and I was told vaping is not allowed in the building. There are currently no food items sold, but we are welcome to bring our own snacks. I look forward to seeing everyone. Bring a friend or more to join us! You know we're often more about the yarn tales than the yarn tails.

Folks, it was brought to my attention this morning that the 4th Saturday of January has NOT YET occurred. I am going to blame covid-brain for my lapse, even though I've not had covid... just the cabin fever it induces.
With that said, I will be at the Fellowship hall (5203 Elmira St, Milton FL) Saturday morning, January 23, 10:00 a.m. to meet with any of you who want to join me. Bring your own snacks, beverages. And please remember Mama Lattes, who graciously hosted our meetings before Covid-19.
I look forward to seeing everyone!
Making items for charity is always worthwhile. Here's a list of patterns you can crochet and then donate!

Friends, out of an abundance of caution, it has been decided that our Knotty Prayers group will NOT be meeting in March, and possibly not in April; we will make that determination closer to the April date.
Please be safe in your activities.
Support small businesses as best you can. (Mama Lattes would probably bring your beverage to your car if you called in an order)
Bring on the bobbles! Did you know you can crochet bobbles in a knitting project? Watch as Nicole shows us how! 🧶
Get the Dovercourt Knit Cardigan pattern: http://bit.ly/2HRntQw
For this technique, find the written instructions below.
Using a crochet hook the same size or slightly smaller than your knitting needles:
1. Knit to the stitch where you’re supposed to start working on your bobble.
2. Insert your crochet hook from back to front through the horizontal loop lying before the stitch (this will “twist” the stitch).
3. (Yarn over hook and pull through loop on hook) twice. Or, if you are familiar with crochet terminology, ch 2.
4. (Yoh and draw up a loop. Yoh and draw through first 2 loops on hook) 4 times. You will now have 5 loops on your hook. Yoh and draw through all 5 loops on hook. 1 loop left on hook.
5. Slip this loop onto your right-hand needle, knit next stitch from the left-hand needle onto the right-hand needle and pass the slipped stitch over. Ta-Da!
