Sassys Dogs Rescue

As many of you know, we sent several sweet pups up north recently.

All have been adopted and we'll share those success stories.

But we just have to share a very special one.
His before. His after. And everything in between.

Thunder (named after being found during a storm)
He came to us after he was thrown over someone's fence during the days we had heavy rains. Hunkered in a corner hiding.
Full of mud and infested with fleas.

During his time here in foster care. Thunder showed such resilience. And as he grew and learned the good life. It was like he had an older soul.
Knowing how to be. Walk on a leash and even carry it 🤭
Played gently with other pups. Shared toys.

Then it was time. Time to make the trip up north. We heard he was adopted already. So we got so excited.

Then we found out he went to be with a Veteran and his beautiful family.
To learn and train how to be their therapy dog. His special dog.

When Thunder arrived the children said "this is the best day ever"
So we aren't crying 😭🫶
After getting that info.

We love sharing all the beautiful stories and adventures
But sometimes there is an extra special one.
Just a black throw away puppy to going on to help others heal. Love unconditionally and be part something so beautiful.

You know how we love the under-dogs 🫶

Billy was at the shelter for FORTY EIGHT DAYS 😢
Desiree had been there for two weeks.

Two kennels emptied and lives saved.
More dogs will show up. Space is needed.
And as our dogs were getting out more dogs were being taken in. 💔

But we will celebrate today and give thanks to helping two dogs who desperately needed saving.

Welcome to rescue beautiful babies. All good things from here.

Now we have to work on the next part of saving.
Vet bills.

Both have been spayed and neutered and rabies vaccinated.

But we have other vetting to do
Both need f***l and Giardia tests.
One needs a 4dx (Desiree)
Both will need a booster vaxx
Monthly preventatives
Food

Total for both will run approximately $400

We have an update on our sweet parvo survivor Dulce.

After a few days at her fosters home, we noticed her back legs were turning in and she was a bit weak when she'd run.

So we got her to our vet and had xrays done on her front and back legs, her hips and spine.

And our ortho vet discovered she has two hairline fractures, one in each back leg 😞 straight across.
That have started healing.

The fractures were caused by a blunt force across the back of her legs.
We can't even imagine what was done to her especially at such a young age. She's just a baby 💔

But it's also not surprising in this cruel world we live in. What we see in the rescue world.
Maybe hit with something or kicked.

Whatever it was, we are here to get her better. And she'll never live in fear again.
And getting spoiled every day by her foster mom.

Dulce is on antibiotics to head off any possible infection. She's also on anti-inflammatory meds.

She's already moving about better and she will go back Oct 9th for a follow up and another xray to check her legs.

So she's survived parvo and a very cruel act from someone from living in an area that can be so ugly for animals.

Now we need to raise donations to pay for her medical costs.
Her meds and upcoming appt.
She also will be due for her next monthly preventative.

We know. We know. Intake was closed. But we also don't tell our fosters NO you can't save a life 😆

When one dog leaves they are boot 👢 scootin to the shelter the very next day.

As is the case for this beautiful girl
Who was just sitting oh so patiently waiting for her break.

We saw you girl. We saw your sweet demeanor and pitiful eyes.
Our foster Jennifer went today to meet her. And she was a hit.

Next thing I know I'm getting a text and replied with...if that's the dog then get her 🙏

So please welcome Lainey 🤠 to the SDR family and new life.

She's got new fur friends now with a comfy safe place.

Now the next phase of saving.
Funds.
We need funds to get some vetting done
Which will be approximately $300

She needs to get her booster vaxx
Monthly preventative

And get a bag of food.

Our next group of amazing pups left Texas this morning and headed to all new adventures 🙌

Today was a good day.
A very blessed day.

As we sent four amazing dogs out of Texas.

Ariel
Rucker
Peony
Frankie

And we did it because so many amazing people came together and helped us make dreams come true.

Our fosters (for being so amazing). Our supporters. Our vet staff. Our partner rescues. Adopters. And our wonderful transport team.
And every individual person helping us in between. 🙏

We couldn't have done this without all of you.

So excited to see these amazing dogs go on to new adventures and start a new life with their new families 🥹

This is a post we hate to make and honestly it's sad for us 😔

However, with dogs leaving on transport and having to pay for their HC'S and dogs still remaining in foster care.

Funds are low right now. And in order to help future dogs, we have to close intake at least temporarily.
Until we get our vet bill paid down.
Even though these eight dogs remain in foster care. Everything they need adds up fast.
We know people understand this or at least we hope they do.

We are beyond grateful to those who have donated and shared.
And continue to support us.

We appreciate you beyond words.

For how long we'll close is not determined right now.
Could be days, weeks or longer.

Some fosters need a break. Between their busy full time jobs, trips planned, personal life
Yes they deserve this.

Once this group of dogs leave, every foster we have will still have dogs in foster care (pictured) below.

Some are medical and continue to need daily medication.
One is a hospice dog (Lady)
It adds up. It's not cheap. Some dogs are on special diets. We need to purchase more monthly preventatives.

Sopa has to be spayed still. She'll need a booster vaxx.

Our next transport again, will be mid Oct.

If for some reason we can help another shelter dog. We will have to raise the funds in advance to ensure we can financially intake another.

We apologize if this causes more stress on others, but taking in a dog and not having a plan is something we can't do anymore.

It seems in general people have this idea to take a dog and figure it out. Well that's what we usually do and recently it has caused financial struggles, unlike before we could make it work.

Vetting isn't free. Our vet needs paid. They help us in so many ways and we are grateful 🙏

➡️Our vet bill currently is roughly $1,600 and again we'll pay on it with what we can.
Yes, All our donations goes straight to the dogs and their bills, plus food etc.

It'll be much higher after this weeks HC'S, a spay, Rocky has a follow up Friday to determine when he can get the Pin in his leg removed.

Dulce going back Friday for a check up on her back legs (stay tuned for that) 🥺
