Behind the Build: Rutgers University Student Projects Studio

Meet Mike Bouchard, a Principal here at CES:

“The client challenged us on this project to not only create RU’s first ever net-zero building but to also have it serve as a technical workshop. The energy demands are extreme as they include welders, fume hoods, and machining equipment that place a significant draw on the solar PV system. Working with SLAM we oversized the roof to assist with both solar shading for cooling reduction while also increasing available space for solar generation."

Meet Vincent Burns, a Principal here at CES:

“Amant is a unique arts campus constructed from ground-up poured concrete. Performance areas support uses from art exhibits to off-Broadway productions. Flexible HVAC designs include rooftop gas-fired AC and LED lighting with custom controls."

Behind the Build: Oak Bluffs Town Hall

Meet Brad Park, a Principal here at CES:

“Our focus at Oak Bluffs Town Hall was to create a fossil fuel free building. Energy modeling was performed to guide design decisions, resulting in the inclusion of all-electric heat pump systems. This formula resulted in a net-zero-ready facility that will serve the community for years to come."

Behind the Build: Columbia University, Wallach Hall Gaming Lounge

Meet Eric Gebrian, a Associate here at CES:

“This project truly challenged our problem-solving abilities as we transformed a small but historic space into a cutting-edge e-gaming center, carefully integrating all the MEP systems required to support it.

Through close collaboration with the architect, we developed “The Brain,” a central zone that houses both the mechanical and IT equipment, allowing the entire space to function smoothly. We even managed to cool the computing equipment efficiently by returning air through the IT/computer room back to the cooling unit."
