General information

THE ALLEY THEATRE features a metropolitan entry way down a beautifully lit alley leading guests to a funky foyer greeting them with an ENTERING THE ALLEY sign and Beacon Hill style street lamp. From there, visitors enter the strikingly bold handicap accessible, air conditioned 25ftX19ft Lobby/Box Office/Reception Room bursting with purple, orange and yellow hues. Immediately, eyes are drawn to the exploding floral chandelier in the center of the 14 foot high ceiling. Dripping in the designs of vintage artist Leonetto Cappiello, and Ziegfeld Follies and French Posters, the vivid exhibit of color in the Box Office/Reception Room is sure to arouse. An inviting classic sitting area is available for guests. Immediately off of the Box Office/Reception Room, are two double occupancy handicap accessible bathrooms.

The Bartending Service of New England LLC, will meet all beverage needs in the Box Office/Reception Room. One of our two in house caterers Kim Savage of A Season To Taste and Theresa Pietnik of At Home With Food, will provide food for your event. From passed Hors d'œuvres to sit down dinners, their culinary skills are sure to impress any pallet. (Patrons are welcome to bring in their own caterers.)

From the Lobby/Box Office/Reception Room, guests make their way through red velvet draped double doors leading into THE ALLEY THEATRE . Enveloped in inviting shades of cranberry and blackberry wine, guests will be seated in the 1215 square foot handicap accessible, air conditioned theatre. The proscenium style stage is 24 inches off of the ground, 10 feet deep and 31 feet long. For added depth and elegance for parties (or performance classes) an optional wall of mirrors stretches along the back of the theatre. For all other events, the mirrors can be disguised behind curtains. THE ALLEY THEATRE features hardwood floors, 14 foot high ceilings, 100 crimson and gray high quality folding chairs with 2” thickly padded seats. A dramatic art series of black and white alley photos line the house right wall of the theatre. Occupancy regulations allow up to 100 guests seated in the theatre, or 150 guests standing in the space.

Sound and Lighting: THE ALLEY THEATRE has two 12" monitors (speakers), 1 Shure wireless Microphone unit, 6 wireless Shure hand held microphones, and a Behringer EUROPOWER PMP4000 Powered Mixer. Guests are invited to bring in their own sound or tap into the existing sound on site. The Alley Theatre has a good basic lighting system installed. There are mounting points (Battens) throughout the theatre. The system is a DMX 512 compatible system with a SCENE SETTER 48 board and 4 4x.6Kw packs. There are 16 .3KW Med Par 56 cans available for use. Each can has a gel frame and a basic gel kit is available. The Theatre also has a Medium Throw - Follow Spot Light. There are individual circuit outlets (Edison with Ground) throughout the theatre both on and off stage. As a common DMX capable system, both Dimmer packs and additional lighting can be added to this system should the need arise. Sound and lighting engineers are available for hire through THE ALLEY THEATRE and may be able to upgrade sound and lighting needs at an additional fee. Security Deposits will be forfeited if lights aren’t reset after use. For more information on lighting, please visit burtwoodschool.com and click under THE ALLEY THEATRE.

Backstage: The 25ft X 10ft backstage area features a warm up piano, a mounted over sized dry board for director’s notes and order of scenes, a clothing rack for quick costume changes, mirrors for last minute cosmetic touch ups, and tri-fold privacy changing screens. Three additional 13 ft X26 ft dressing/changing areas are available at an additional fee.

The Alley Theatre has a new thrust is available for an additional cost of $100 per show. This fee includes the set up and strike of the thrust. The thrust runs the full length of the stage, adding an additional 4 feet of depth. It has black, non-reflective flooring and is nicely skirted in a pleated black (removable) material.

In 2013, The Alley Theatre added to its lighting inventory through the acquisition of 8 additional Par 56 .3KW MFL instruments with frames and new gel. The lighting control system has also been enhanced through the acquisition of 2 additional 4x.6kw DMX dimmer packs. These improvements will allow performance groups to utilize more involved, aggressive lighting designs for their productions.
