Mirror Theory teaches that the words people throw at you are often reflections of the battles happening inside them. A person full of peace does not wake up searching for someone to destroy, and someone truly secure does not need to make others feel small to feel important. Sometimes the insults, judgments, and harsh treatment you receive were never accurate descriptions of who you are—they were pieces of pain, insecurity, jealousy, or self-hatred spilling out from someone who could not carry them alone.

And one of the saddest truth in life is realizing that many people speak to others the same way they secretly speak to themselves. So not every cruel word deserves a place in your heart, because sometimes you were never looking at your reflection at all—you were simply standing in front of theirs.

Unpopular opinion: Companies should ban their team members from writing important ideas with AI ... let me explain 👇🏾

This week I read a Nature journal editorial titled "Writing is thinking."

One of the most prestigious scientific journals on earth arguing that outsourcing writing to AI may "deprive us of the opportunity to reflect on our field and engage in the creative, essential task of shaping research findings."

I believe (very strongly) that clear writing is just the output of clear thinking.

The issue is, we're all now being tempted by AI to outsource our writing - and therefore our thinking - to chatgpt.

I deeply believe that the smartest companies, people, founders of the next decade will be the ones where the people still write their own words.

Where people wrestle with hard problems until they understand them and where the increasing discomfort of the blank page is treated as a valuable opportunity.

It tends to be the case that when everyone takes the easy path, the value of taking the harder path increases.

It also tends to be the case that those who opt for an easier more convenient life in the near term, tend to have a harder life in the long term.

And besides, good AI prompting requires understanding the problem at a level that only comes from wrestling with it yourself first. You can't shortcut your way to good questions, and the world we're heading into is going to be won by those who know which question is most important...

Your ideas are only as good as your thinking.

Your thinking is only as good as your writing.

Don't stop writing.

A massive umbrella review on depression and exercise found that walking can be even more effective than counseling or medication…especially when you take it outside.

When cortisol stays elevated, your body shifts into a constant stress response. Over time, that can impact mood, increase anxiety, disrupt sleep, and contribute to symptoms of depression. And a lot of what drives that today is simple…poor sleep, unstable blood sugar, lack of sunlight, and not enough movement.

The good news is, the solutions are simple too. Prioritize 7–9 hours of quality sleep, get sunlight within an hour of waking, walk outside regularly, and make sure you’re eating enough protein to stabilize blood sugar. Even a simple morning walk can support your circadian rhythm, regulate cortisol, and improve mood all at once.

This wasn’t a short-term trial, researchers tracked 92,383 participants for 28 years and found that those who consumed at least 7 grams of olive oil daily, about half a tablespoon, had a 28% lower risk of dementia-related death.

Importantly, this association held even after adjusting for overall diet quality, genetics, including the APOE ε4 gene, and lifestyle factors.

Why might olive oil be protective? It’s rich in monounsaturated fats, polyphenols, and vitamin E, compounds that have been shown in other research to:
🫒 Protect brain cells from oxidative damage
🫒 Reduce neuroinflammation, a key driver of cognitive decline
🫒 Support vascular health and help maintain blood flow to the brain

The study also found that replacing just 5 grams of margarine or mayonnaise with olive oil was associated with an 8–14% lower risk of dementia-related death. This may reflect the benefit of reducing trans fats and replacing them with healthier fat sources.

With dementia rates on the rise, these findings add to the growing evidence that what you eat plays a role in long-term brain health. While this was an observational study and cannot prove cause and effect, prioritizing extra virgin olive oil may be a simple and meaningful strategy for supporting cognitive longevity.
