On this day 3 years ago, the Heat took a 2-0 lead against the Celtics in Boston.
The game was marked by Jimmy Butler and Grant Williams going at each other.

Dwyane Wade nearly retired during the Miami Big 3 era. Not after the titles. Not when the run was over. Right in the middle of it.
While playing with LeBron James and Chris Bosh and chasing championships, Wade was dealing with knee pain so bad that it made basketball feel unbearable.
His mornings were brutal. His knees hurt so much he could barely bend them, and simple things like putting on underwear felt like climbing Mt. Everest. After games, both knees would swell up.
Wade later said: “My knees were in so much pain.” His right knee had bone bruises and chondromalacia under the kneecap, while his left knee had already gone through three surgeries, leaving him with arthritis, swelling, and constant pain.
At one point, the pain took away the joy completely: “It was a time where I didn’t want to do it anymore. I didn’t want to be in pain anymore.”
That’s what makes Wade’s Big 3 run even more legendary. He wasn’t just adjusting his game for LeBron. He was fighting his own body every single night.
D-Wade was winning championships while quietly wondering if he could even keep going.

D-Wade gave real context on Pat Riley replacing Stan Van Gundy during the Heat’s championship season.
“At the time, it was early in the season — we were like 11-11,” Wade said. “It was real early when Pat came back as coach.”
Wade made it clear this wasn’t about disrespecting Stan Van Gundy. He actually gave Stan a lot of credit.
“Stan was a very good young coach,” Wade said. “I thank him for my early success.”
But Wade also understood the reality of that 2006 Heat team. This wasn’t a young, quiet roster trying to figure things out. Miami had veterans, big personalities, championship expectations, and, in Wade’s words, “a bunch of grown man knuckleheads.”
That’s why Pat Riley mattered.
“We’re talking about the godfather,” Wade said. “We’re talking about one of the greatest coaches of all time coming back.”
And that presence changed everything.
“We needed to be brought in,” Wade said. “That’s what Riles came and did.”
The way Wade tells it, Pat Riley didn’t just take over the team. He gave that locker room the structure, discipline, and authority it needed at exactly the right time.
Stan helped Wade early. But that Heat team needed the godfather. Pat Riley didn’t just coach them, he brought grown men back in line.

This is so disrespectful💀
Chris Broussard really said Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has already passed Dwyane Wade ALL-TIME after winning back-to-back MVPs:
“You got Jordan, Kobe, and SGA. I think you already can put him ahead of Jerry West and Dwyane Wade. If he wins this championship he definitely goes ahead of Wade.”
Like… are we just forgetting who D-Wade was now? 😭
A Finals MVP.
3x NBA Champion.
13x All-Star.
One of the greatest playoff performers ever.
The player who dropped one of the greatest Finals runs in NBA history in 2006.
SGA is incredible and he’s building an all-time career, but saying he already passed Wade might be one of the fastest all-time rankings jumps we’ve ever seen.

“Andrew Wiggins is the best teammate. He doesn’t complain, he doesn’t have an ego, shows up everyday, does his job, always has a smile on his face.”
Bam Adebayo giving Wiggins his flowers 🌹

Better peak: 2009 D-Wade or 2012 LeBron? 👀
Wade was carrying everything in 2009: pure scoring, insane first step, elite defense, and one of the craziest guard seasons ever.
But 2012 LeBron was a two-way monster, MVP-level every night, and finally put the league on notice in Miami while winning his first championship.
Who had the better peak season?
Drop your pick and explain why⬇️

D-Wade on his retirement and LeBron’s longevity:
“I can still play — I can go play right now and still be able to play," Wade said in a recent interview. "But I won’t be that good, so it’s easy for me to decide to walk away. It’s hard to make that decision when you’re still really f*cking good…"
"How do you walk away from being a GOAT when you’re still a GOAT?” Wade added.
That’s the LeBron James dilemma. Year 22, still elite. Still a superstar. Still good enough to make retirement feel impossible.

Michael Jordan knew Dwyane Wade had a real MVP case in 2009.
Wade was unbelievable that season, averaging 30.2 points, 7.5 assists, 5.0 rebounds, 2.2 steals, and 1.3 blocks while carrying Miami back to the playoffs.
MJ said it best:
“I think Dwyane is a phenomenon — if he’s not talked in terms of the MVP then I think that they’re not really giving him a fair assessment of the MVP. No matter what you can say about his team — you take him away from his team I’m pretty sure they would not be as successful as you take away LeBron and you take away Kobe — I’m pretty sure those teams will still be competitive. Not to speak down on his teammates — just in terms of how much he represents offensively and defensively… this kid each and every day — if he’s not playing they don’t have a chance to win…”
Wade didn’t win MVP, but even Jordan believed he deserved more respect in that race.

Has Bam Adebayo already surpassed Jimmy Butler in Miami Heat history?
Bam has been the defensive anchor, franchise constant, and one of the most important Heat players of his era.
But Jimmy gave Miami legendary playoff runs and unforgettable Finals moments.
Pick one:
Bam’s consistency or Jimmy’s playoff legacy?

Chris Bosh shut down the idea that LeBron James and Dwyane Wade wanted Erik Spoelstra fired during the Heatles’ first season together.
Miami started the 2010-11 season under massive pressure, and after a rocky opening stretch, the noise around Spo got loud. Fans were chanting for Pat Riley to come back to the bench, but according to Bosh, the team never had some secret plan to get Spo fired.
“It was never a thing. It was getting so crazy… we gave Spo a rough time don’t get me wrong… the fans in Miami, it started at the home games and people were just like ‘WE WANT RILES’… we had to have a whole team meeting about that and Riles was like ‘I’m not coaching, this is our team’…”
Spo stayed, and Miami went to the Finals that year. Two seasons later, Spoelstra was a two-time NBA champion head coach.

Kawhi Leonard to the Miami Heat
Heat receive:
Kawhi Leonard, Derrick Jones Jr., 36th pick
Clippers receive:
Tyler Herro, Andrew Wiggins, 13th pick, 2030 1st-round pick, 2031 pick swap
As suggested by Bleacher Report.
Miami gets another star next to Bam and potentially makes one more all-in push. The Clippers reset with younger pieces, a lottery pick, and future draft capital.
