This vacation house in , built by .ArthurCasas for a family with two children, is divided into two main volumes, displaced from one another. The ground floor contains the entire social area, while the upper volume accommodates the more sheltered suites. The social area is fully integrated with the exterior, opening to the view of the golf course just ahead. In opposition, the side of the house facing the street is more closed, which guarantees privacy.

The upper floor has three suites. The master suite has an antechamber of its own, which residents can use as an office and intimate living room. On the ground floor, in addition to the social area, there are two guest suites. A long piece of furniture, made of freijó wood, divides the dining room and kitchen, giving uses to both sides and creating an access corridor, which connects the entrance of the house to the end of the dining room.

The biggest challenge of the project was the ex*****on of large swings and spans in a very slender structure. The solution was to use the spaces between floors to create inverted beams. The facade cladding of the house was executed in gray leaded aluminum, which allows little maintenance and differentiates the residence from the neighbors, as desired by the client. The monolithic flooring was also chosen for its beauty and practicality. The house also meets sustainable requirements. It has solar water heating, green roof, plastic wooden deck and cross air circulation, which reduces the need to use air conditioning, minimizing the impacts on the environment. 📸: via ArchitectureAndDesign |

No architectural element adds drama quite like a double-height ceiling. As these light-filled rooms from the archives of Architectural Digest prove, high ceilings open up an array of design possibilities, creating the perfect setting for high-impact decor, from grand chandeliers to bold surfaces.

A floral light sculpture by U-Ram Choe glimmers in the double-height living room of a Tennessee house, which was renovated by architecture firm DA|AD and decorated by McAlpine Booth & Ferrier Interiors. At far left, the curtains are of a Great Plains fabric, and a tree-trunk–like cocktail table by Chista stands near a vintage Tommi Parzinger armchair from Duane Modern. The William Haines Designs slipper chairs are upholstered in a faux shearling by Larsen, and the Christophe Delcourt settees are from Ralph Pucci International; the low credenza at right is by BDDW.

At Milan’s Eurodomus 3 trade show in 1970, architect Ettore Sottsass unveiled a neon-lit pink mirror called Ultrafragola, or “the ultimate strawberry,” which he designed for . Fashioned from slick, vacuum-molded plastic and cast fiberglass, it was part of the brand’s mission to bring novel industrial materials into the home. Today, the mirror is still made using the original 1970 mold, (but is now available in LED), and is a favorite among A-listers and design lovers alike.
