CONSTRUCTION WORKER KILLED IN WALTON COUNTY ROADWAY TRAGEDY

LOGANVILLE, GA. — Another roadside worker has lost his life while performing his duties in a roadway. According to the Georgia State Patrol, 46-year-old Vipulkumar Patel was struck and killed on June 4, 2026, while taking measurements on State Route 81 near Ozora Church Road in Walton County. Troopers reported that Patel was working in the roadway when he was struck by an Acura MDX driven by a 16-year-old motorist. Patel was pronounced deceased at the scene. The teenage driver was not injured. The investigation remains ongoing.

This tragedy serves as another painful reminder that roadside workers, construction crews, emergency responders, tow operators, utility workers, and law enforcement officers face life-threatening dangers every day while working just feet from moving traffic.

Every cone, warning sign, flashing light, and work zone exists for a reason. A moment of distraction behind the wheel can forever change the lives of workers, their families, coworkers, and entire communities.

Slow Down Move Over Inc. urges all motorists to remain alert, eliminate distractions, obey work zone speed limits, and move over whenever possible for roadside personnel. When you see people working along our roads, remember they deserve to return home safely at the end of their shift.

One decision. One distraction. One life lost.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends, and coworkers of Vipulkumar Patel during this difficult time.

Slow Down. Move Over. Save Lives.

ANOTHER LIFE LOST IN A HIGHWAY WORK ZONE

MIDDLEBURG HEIGHTS, OHIO — A Cleveland woman lost her life on June 4 after her vehicle crashed into a work zone vehicle on Interstate 71, according to information released by the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The crash remains under investigation. (News 5 Cleveland WEWS)

While details continue to emerge, one fact remains unchanged: work zones, emergency scenes, and roadside operations are among the most dangerous places for workers and motorists alike.

Every flashing light, arrow board, cone, and work vehicle is there for a reason. Behind those warning devices are people trying to do their jobs and return home safely to their families.

Sadly, incidents like this continue to demonstrate that a moment of inattention, distraction, or failure to slow down can have devastating consequences.

Slow Down Move Over, Inc. extends its condolences to the victim’s family, friends, and all those affected by this tragic crash.

We urge every driver to stay alert, eliminate distractions, reduce speed in work zones, and move over whenever possible. One decision behind the wheel can mean the difference between life and death.

The message is simple:

SLOW DOWN.
MOVE OVER.
SAVE LIVES.

ANOTHER CLOSE CALL FOR FIRST RESPONDERS

During the early morning hours of June 2, Engine Co. 2 was struck from behind while protecting the scene of a crash on Route 24. The fire engine was positioned with emergency lights activated, shielding firefighters and the public from passing traffic.

Thankfully, no firefighters were injured, but the apparatus sustained significant damage and had to be towed from the scene.

This is exactly why Slow Down, Move Over laws exist.

Firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMS personnel, tow operators, and highway workers put their lives on the line every day to help others. A moment of distraction behind the wheel can change lives forever.

This time, everyone went home. The next time, the outcome may not be the same.

When you see emergency lights ahead:

🚨 SLOW DOWN
🚨 MOVE OVER WHEN SAFE TO DO SO
🚨 STAY ALERT AND PUT THE PHONE DOWN

Every responder deserves to make it home safely.

GOOD SAMARITAN’S DEATH ON I-75 HIGHLIGHTS DANGERS FACING EVERYONE ON OUR ROADWAYS

Slow Down Move Over, Inc. extends its deepest condolences to the family, friends, and fellow Marines of Jonathan Garcia Arias, the 25-year-old Good Samaritan who lost his life after stopping to help a truck driver involved in a rollover crash on Interstate 75 in Florida.

According to reports, Jonathan pulled over to assist a driver following a box truck rollover. While helping at the scene, he was struck by another vehicle and later succumbed to his injuries. Two passengers in the striking vehicle also lost their lives, while several others suffered serious injuries.

Jonathan’s actions represent the very best of humanity. He saw someone in need and stopped to help without hesitation. His willingness to assist a stranger reflects the selflessness and courage that defined his life.

Unfortunately, this tragedy also serves as a painful reminder that every incident scene on the side of the road is an active hazard zone. Whether you are a law enforcement officer, firefighter, EMS provider, tow operator, highway worker, stranded motorist, or Good Samaritan, the dangers posed by passing traffic are real and often deadly.

Every year, lives are lost because drivers fail to slow down, move over, eliminate distractions, and remain alert when approaching emergency scenes, disabled vehicles, and roadway incidents.

At Slow Down Move Over, Inc., we encourage motorists to remember that every flashing light, disabled vehicle, crash scene, or person standing near the roadway represents someone’s family member. A few seconds of attention and a simple lane change can mean the difference between life and death.

Jonathan Garcia Arias made the ultimate sacrifice while trying to help another person. Let his legacy be a reminder that kindness still exists, but also that roadway safety is everyone’s responsibility.

Slow down. Move over. Stay alert. Lives depend on it.

PENNSYLVANIA JUST TOOK A BIG STEP FORWARD IN ROADSIDE SAFETY.

Todd Leiss has successfully led the effort to get a Slow Down Move Over specialty license plate approved, passed, and officially released in Pennsylvania.

If you don’t think that’s a big deal, think again.

Every plate on the road becomes a moving reminder. Thousands of drivers will see this message every day. The more people see it, the more they think about it. The more they think about it, the more likely they are to slow down and move over when they encounter emergency responders, tow operators, law enforcement, firefighters, EMS personnel, and highway workers on the roadside.

Awareness saves lives.

One plate may seem small, but when that message is carried across highways, cities, and communities throughout Pennsylvania, it has the potential to influence countless decisions behind the wheel.

Congratulations and thank you, Todd, for reaching such an important milestone. Your hard work and dedication to roadside safety will make a difference for years to come.

TEXAS UPDATES CDL AND LEARNER PERMIT EXAMS TO ENGLISH-ONLY

Texas has announced that Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and Commercial Learner Permit (CLP) knowledge exams will now be administered in English only.

This change aligns with existing federal requirements that commercial drivers be able to read and speak English sufficiently to understand road signs, communicate with law enforcement, emergency responders, shippers, receivers, and safely operate commercial vehicles.

At Slow Down Move Over, Inc., our focus is always roadway safety. Whether it’s a traffic stop, a vehicle recovery, a disabled truck on the shoulder, or an emergency incident, clear communication is critical. First responders, tow operators, transportation personnel, and commercial drivers must be able to effectively communicate in high-risk environments where seconds matter.

No matter where you stand on this policy change, one thing remains true: safety on our roadways depends on communication, awareness, and drivers paying attention to their surroundings.

Move over. Slow down. Stay alert. Lives depend on it.

SECONDARY CRASHES: THE HIDDEN DANGER OF DISTRACTED DRIVING

A crash in Idaho today on I-84 near Kasota has led to a secondary collision, reducing the interstate to a single lane and creating additional hazards for motorists, emergency responders, tow operators, and highway workers.

Secondary crashes occur when drivers encounter an existing traffic incident and fail to react appropriately. These crashes are often caused by distracted driving, following too closely, excessive speed, or drivers focusing on the original crash scene instead of the roadway ahead.

Studies have shown that secondary crashes can be just as severe, and sometimes more deadly, than the original incident. When traffic suddenly slows or stops, distracted drivers have little time to react, resulting in rear-end collisions, chain-reaction crashes, and vehicles entering emergency work zones.

The scene of any crash becomes a dangerous workplace. Law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMS personnel, tow operators, and highway maintenance crews depend on motorists to remain alert, slow down, and move over whenever possible.

"Too many drivers are focused on their phones, vehicle displays, or the emergency lights ahead rather than the traffic conditions directly in front of them," said Slow Down Move Over Inc. "Every secondary crash is a reminder that distracted driving doesn't just endanger the driver making the mistake. It puts innocent motorists and roadside workers at risk."

Slow Down Move Over Inc. urges all drivers to:

• Eliminate distractions and keep their eyes on the road.• Maintain a safe following distance.• Reduce speed when approaching congestion or emergency scenes.• Obey all Move Over laws.• Stay focused on driving, not on the incident taking place alongside the roadway.

A moment of distraction can create a lifetime of consequences. The safest response when approaching any emergency scene is simple: Slow Down. Move Over. Stay Alert.

About Slow Down Move Over Inc.

Slow Down Move Over Inc. is dedicated to increasing awareness of roadside safety, supporting first responders and tow operators, and advocating for stronger compliance with Move Over laws to prevent needless injuries and fatalities.

The tragic crash that occurred this morning on Interstate 75 near Naples serves as another heartbreaking reminder of the dangers faced by motorists who stop to help others in need.

According to reports, a Good Samaritan stopped to assist the driver of a crashed truck on the shoulder of the interstate. While rendering aid, a Tesla struck the scene, resulting in the deaths of the Good Samaritan and two occupants of the Tesla.

TOW OPERATOR KILLED BY ALLEGED DRUNK DRIVER ON I-635 IN DALLAS

DALLAS, TX — Another roadside worker has lost his life while simply doing his job.

On May 27, 2026, tow operator Mohammad Obeidat was assisting with the recovery of a disabled vehicle on Interstate 635 near Preston Road when tragedy struck. According to Dallas Police, Obeidat was standing outside his tow truck loading a disabled vehicle onto the flatbed when a pickup truck driven by Robert Watson, 53, crashed into the tow truck.

The violent impact overturned Watson’s vehicle and fatally injured Obeidat.

Investigators reported that Watson showed signs of intoxication, including slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, and a strong odor of alcohol. Watson allegedly admitted to consuming beer before getting behind the wheel. He has been charged with Intoxication Manslaughter and is currently being held in the Dallas County Jail on a $100,000 bond.

Court records indicate Watson has multiple prior DWI arrests dating back more than three decades.

This was not an unavoidable accident.

This was a completely preventable tragedy caused by a driver who allegedly chose to drink and drive.

Mohammad Obeidat went to work expecting to return home to his family. Instead, his life was taken on the side of a highway while performing an essential service that keeps our roads safe.

A witness, Cole Moscatel, stopped and performed CPR for more than ten minutes while waiting for first responders to arrive. His actions reflect the compassion and courage that far too often become necessary after reckless decisions destroy lives.

Every day, tow operators, law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMS personnel, highway maintenance workers, and roadside service providers put themselves in harm’s way to protect the traveling public. They deserve more than memorials and condolences. They deserve drivers who make responsible choices before turning the key.

Drunk driving remains one of the most reckless and deadly decisions a person can make. One choice. One moment. One life taken forever.

SLOW DOWN MOVE OVER INC. extends its deepest condolences to the family, friends, and coworkers of Mohammad Obeidat.

We will continue fighting for stronger awareness, stronger enforcement, and greater accountability for those who endanger roadside workers.

Slow Down. Move Over. Pay Attention.

Because every roadside worker deserves to make it home.

SLOW DOWN MOVE OVER INC. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting roadside safety awareness, supporting roadside workers and their families, and advocating for compliance with Move Over laws nationwide. SLOW DOWN MOVE OVER INC. MOURNS LOSS OF ILLINOIS TOLLWAY WORKER KILLED

Slow Down Move Over Inc. extends its deepest condolences to the family, friends, and coworkers of an Illinois Tollway maintenance worker who was killed Saturday morning while performing roadway repairs on Interstate 294 near Des Plaines, Illinois.

According to Illinois State Police, three tollway workers were repairing potholes in the southbound lanes of I-294 near Devon Avenue when they were struck by a vehicle at approximately 4:30 a.m. All three workers were transported to area hospitals. Tragically, one worker later succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash, while two others were injured. Authorities continue to investigate the incident.

This heartbreaking loss serves as another painful reminder of the dangers faced daily by roadside workers, highway maintenance crews, emergency responders, tow operators, and transportation personnel across America.

“Every flashing light on the shoulder represents a human being with a family waiting for them to come home,” said Slow Down Move Over Inc. “These workers were performing essential repairs to keep motorists safe. No one should lose their life simply for doing their job.”

The tragedy comes amid a troubling pattern of roadway worker fatalities across the country. In recent days, transportation and construction workers in multiple states have been struck and killed while working near moving traffic, highlighting the ongoing need for driver awareness and compliance with Move Over laws.

Slow Down Move Over Inc. urges all motorists to:

• Slow down when approaching emergency, maintenance, towing, and utility vehicles displaying flashing lights.
• Move over whenever it is safe to do so.
• Eliminate distractions and remain alert in work zones and along highway shoulders.
• Remember that every roadside worker is someone’s spouse, parent, child, friend, or coworker.

One moment of inattention can change countless lives forever.

Today, we stand with the Illinois Tollway family and all roadway workers who continue to put themselves in harm’s way to serve the traveling public. We ask everyone to keep the victim’s family, the injured workers, and their colleagues in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Slow Down. Move Over. Save Lives.
