Domestic violence rises when England play. It rises when they win, when they lose, and even when they draw. 😳
The pattern has been documented across multiple World Cups and by police forces over several tournaments. Reports show abuse increases by more than a third after England losses and still rises significantly even after victories. Alcohol-related incidents also increase sharply, and the elevated risk often continues into the following day.
Some police forces have reported their busiest domestic abuse periods of the entire year during England fixtures, while health services have also recorded increases in domestic abuse-related injuries during major tournaments.
Football does not cause abuse — abusers do.
But events like the World Cup can amplify existing risks through heightened emotions, alcohol consumption, gambling pressure, and the intensity that surrounds major matches. For some households, the impact lasts far longer than the final whistle.

One of the most heartwarming stories of this World Cup may finally get its ending ❤️🌍
Ana Candida Évora, the mother of Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha, is now expected to watch her son play live at the 2026 World Cup after travel issues that previously prevented her from entering the United States were resolved.
According to a statement from Hakeem Jeffries, visa fees were waived and the U.S. State Department worked alongside officials from Cape Verde and FIFA to help make the trip possible.
If all goes as planned, she will be in Miami for Cape Verde’s match against Uruguay on June 21.
What began as a story about football has become something bigger — a reminder that for many players, reaching the World Cup isn’t only about representing a nation, but also about sharing that moment with the people who helped them get there.
After years of sacrifice and support, a mother may finally get to see her son live on football’s biggest stage ❤️

Iranian player celebrated with finger guns at the 2026 World Cup — next thing he knew, boarding had already started.
Iran’s national football team reportedly left the United States following controversy surrounding footballer Mohammad Mohebi after his gun-style goal celebration during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Mohebi drew attention after appearing to make a gun gesture during the match — a celebration that quickly became a talking point given the tournament’s global stage and location.
Reports later emerged claiming that the player had been asked to leave the country following the game, bringing even more attention to what began as a routine goal celebration but quickly turned into an unexpected off-field controversy.
Neither tournament officials nor authorities immediately provided a detailed public explanation regarding the circumstances surrounding the reported departure.

The chief minister of a north Indian state was briefly hospitalised two days after a viral video showed him drinking a glass of water from a reportedly polluted “holy river” as part of a campaign promoting cleaner waterways.
The video showed Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann taking a sip from the Kali Bein river in Sultanpur Lodhi to demonstrate confidence in ongoing efforts to restore and clean the river.
However, attention quickly shifted after reports emerged that Mr Mann later fell ill.
According to The Indian Express, Mr Mann — who became Punjab’s chief minister in March — was admitted to Delhi’s Indraprastha Apollo Hospital on Tuesday after experiencing severe stomach pain at his residence in Chandigarh. The report, citing sources familiar with the matter, said he was later airlifted to Delhi.
The timing of the incident led many to draw comparisons between the public display and his reported illness, turning what was intended as a show of confidence into an unexpectedly unfortunate headline.
