Congratulations to six-time NBA All-Star, three-time All-NBA selection, and graduate of Metuchen’s own St. Joseph High School, Karl-Anthony Towns, on helping lead the New York Knicks to their first NBA Championship since 1973.
Before becoming one of the NBA’s biggest stars, Karl-Anthony Towns proudly wore the St. Joe’s uniform here in Metuchen. His remarkable journey from St. Joe’s to NBA Champion is a source of pride for the entire Falcon community and for the many residents who have followed his career over the years.
And to the countless Knicks fans throughout Metuchen: enjoy this one. You’ve waited a long time!

Today, we cut the ribbon on the new location of Maria’s Brunch at 87 Central Avenue, but we celebrated the realization of a dream.
In 2012, Maria and her family arrived in the United States from Oaxaca, Mexico, and she took a job at Edison Family Restaurant, where she joined her father, who worked in the kitchen there. She spoke very little English, but she worked hard, learned from those around her, and never stopped believing in what was possible.
Some of the waitresses at Edison Family Restaurant took Maria under their wing, helping her learn English and navigate a new life in a new country. Maria never forgot that kindness.
Years later, after saving every dollar she could, Maria opened her own restaurant right here in Metuchen. And when she did, some of those very same waitresses left their jobs to come work alongside her.
What started at 140 Durham Avenue has become one of Metuchen’s most beloved restaurants. On any given weekend, you’ll find a line of loyal customers waiting patiently for one of Maria’s incredible breakfasts, lunches, or brunches. They come for the food, but they’ve become devoted customers because they’ve gotten to know and love the people who make Maria’s so special.
Today, we proudly celebrated the next chapter of that journey.
This is an American story, but it’s also a Metuchen story. It’s a reminder that behind every great local business is a person willing to take a chance, work tirelessly, and pour their heart into serving others.
We are incredibly proud of Maria, her family, and the team she has built. Congratulations on this exciting new chapter, Maria! Metuchen is lucky to have you.

In case you haven’t heard, the FIFA World Cup is coming to New Jersey. 😉
And now, according to NJ.com, one of the best places in the state to watch it is right here in Metuchen.
Congratulations to Hailey’s Harp & Pub on being named one of New Jersey’s 15 Best Soccer Bars for World Cup 2026.
The article says that at Hailey’s, “you’ll always be among friends,” which comes as no surprise to those of us who know Hailey’s.
And, of course, the train ticket to Hailey’s will cost a lot less than the train ticket to the game. 😜⚽🍀
The World Cup is just around the corner! 👏⚽️ If you can't make it to New York New Jersey Stadium, Jersey's got you covered.

Another nice recognition for Metuchen.
WorldAtlas recently included Metuchen on its list of "New Jersey's 10 Prettiest Downtown Strips."
Over the past several years, the publication has repeatedly highlighted Metuchen, recognizing our downtown, quality of life, and strong sense of community. In this latest article, it pointed to many of the things we all know and value: our walkable downtown, great local businesses, convenient train access, The Plaza, and all of the amazing community events that bring people together throughout the year.
Congratulations and thank you to everyone who continues to help make this place so special.
10 Prettiest Downtown Strips In New Jersey New Jersey towns offer a welcoming, less crowded alternative with scenic rivers, small-city vibes, and proximity to attractions like NYC and the Jersey Shore.

Had a nice lunch today with my friend, Hamilton Mayor Jeff Martin, at the Metuchen Diner.
Jeff and I spent some time talking about a number of issues facing our respective communities and some of the opportunities ahead, followed by a quick tour of downtown Metuchen.
Thanks for making the trip, Mayor. Always good to compare notes. I’ll make my way back down to Hamilton next time.

Congratulations to The Greek on Main and its owner, Teddy Kappas, on 10 years, which is truly no small feat in the restaurant business.
Over the past decade, Teddy has navigated economic ups and downs, a pandemic, road closures, outdoor dining, municipal requirements, and all the other challenges that come with running a small business.
Through it all, he has remained deeply committed to his customers and he has been a strong advocate for our downtown business community. Like so many of Metuchen’s outstanding small business owners, Teddy has helped make our downtown the vibrant destination it is today.
And it certainly helps that The Greek on Main serves some of the most delicious Greek food around.
Congratulations on this milestone, Teddy. We’re grateful for all you’ve done and for the role you continue to play in the success of downtown Metuchen. 🇬🇷🎉

Tonight marks Metuchen's 5th Downtown Pride.
At its core, Pride is about community. It is about recognizing and celebrating neighbors, friends, family members, and fellow residents who contribute to the life of our Borough every day.
One of Metuchen's greatest strengths has always been our ability to bring people together and create a community where everyone feels welcome and valued.
Downtown Pride takes place tonight from 6 to 8 PM on the Plaza and features an evening of music, celebration, and community as we kick off Pride Month.
Happy Pride, Metuchen.

Across America today, communities gather to honor those who gave their lives in service to our great nation.
Here in Metuchen, this marks the Borough’s 99th consecutive observance, during which we honor the 41 residents of our community who never came home from war.
Every year on Memorial Day, it strikes me is how personal that loss must have felt in a community like ours.
For example, 30 of those 41 residents were lost during World War II alone. During the early 1940s, Metuchen was much like it is today: close knit, neighborly, and filled with families whose children all grew up together. These were classmates, friends, brothers, teammates, and neighbors.
Imagine the impact that kind of loss would have had here. And of course, Metuchen was just one of countless American towns carrying that same burden.
Memorial Day reminds us that freedom is not free. It was secured by ordinary Americans who made extraordinary sacrifices on behalf of a country they believed in.
Today, we honor these brave Metuchenites and all those who made the ultimate sacrifice defending the United States of America.
