1 Samuel 12:5, Then he said to them, β€œThe Lord is witness against you, and His anointed is witness this day, that you have not found anything in my hand.” And they answered, β€œHe is witness.”

Samuel had not cheated them, nor taken anything from anyone. What a great reputation Samuel had his entire life.

Samuel said that God is our witness. Let us keep in mind that God is a witness to how we as his people treat others. He is a witness to how we live and represent Him to the world around us.

Men, there is one relationship that God says that he is especially a witness to and that is our relationship with our wives.

God says in Malachi 2:14 where the Israelites kept questioning the Lord and God said, β€œI have been a witness between you and the wife of your youth whom you have dealt treacherously yet she is your companion and your wife by covenant.”

The Lord is saying I see how you are treating her, talking to her and dealing treacherously with her. I am a witness and I don’t like what I’m seeing. Every man who mistreats his wife, things will not go well with you. We cannot mistreat God’s daughters and expect for things to go well with us. God is a witness and God is watching.

1 Samuel 11:6, "Then the Spirit of God came upon Saul when he heard this news, and his anger was greatly aroused."

What was the result of God's spirit coming upon him? It says he was angered. Now, this of course points to and speaks of righteous anger, A righteous indignation towards sin, and I think the point for us is simple. It's okay to be angry at sin, but it's not okay to be angry and sin. There's a difference.

Ephesians 4:26 says to be angry and do not sin.

We will see righteous anger will spur Saul to action. It's ok to be angry for the right reason.
Jesus got angry in the temple and drove out the buyers and sellers twice. Once at the beginning of his ministry and once at the end. He Took a whip of cords, and drove people out, and said, you've made my Father's house a den of thieves, a house of merchandise, instead of a place of worship. They made it all about money.

Many bad things end because people get righteously angry.

In these verses, we can see that God anoints us with this holy spirit to help people. When Saul heard the people weeping it broke his heart and God's Spirit came upon him to do something about it. This is how God calls us into a certain ministry. He breaks our heart about an issue and then he anoints us to do something to fix the problem.

1 Samuel 11:3, "Then the elders of Jabesh said to him, 'Hold off for seven days, that we may send messengers to all the territory of Israel. And then, if there is no one to save us, we will come out to you.'"

It's interesting how Nahash, the Amite, was going to give them seven days to see if they can get enough help to save them. Now, why did he do that? Maybe he thought no one would come to save them or if someone did, they wouldn't be able to defeat the Ammonites. I believe this shows us Nahash had a lot of pride. His pride takes him down as the Israel army comes to save them. Proverbs 16:18 will come to fruition, that says "Pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall."

This is a great lesson for all of us because pride will always bring us low. Pride and sin will always take us further than we want to go and cost us more than we want to pay.
