Cullera, Spain.
He stopped me on the street; usually, it's the other way around...I stop them. He asked me what I was doing, why I was taking pictures, etc. I could tell he really just wanted to have a conversation. So I spoke with him for a minute or two. Then I asked him if I could take his photo; his answer was an adamant "no." But I could tell his "no" meant "yes," so we conversed for a couple more minutes until I asked him again, and he said yes.
He was on the shady side of the street, which was lucky, as the lighting added a little drama to the photo, I think.

"Raul," Cullera, Spain, Oct 13, 2024.
I was returning from a short photo outing in Sueca, walking from the train station back to our condo on the beach side. He was sitting on the ledge outside his door, smoking his pipe, and talking with his friend (who was sitting just out of the frame on his left.) He reminded me of Popeye.

"Tour Guide"
Kinderdijk, Netherlands.
These guides work for tips only, and they are very smart. They have a lot of experience. I'm not sure, but I bet they can make 100 euros/hr. I know there are disadvantages to each form of remuneration, but I like this model; the guides strive to be really sharp, providing tons of historic info on just about anything you can imagine.
This was our guide for the windmills, by the way. I felt a little like Don Quixote. If you've never seen the original windmills, I highly recommend them. Still fully functional today.

I took this candid portrait during the annual antique tractor show in 2010. It has long been discontinued.

This gentleman was standing outside a liquor store; I recognized the character in his face, so I asked if he would tell me about his life while I took photos. This is one of them.
