FICTION: “You can cure IBS with a detox or cleanse.”

👉 Fact: There’s no cure for IBS, and detoxes or cleanses can often make symptoms worse. While it may sound appealing to “reset” your gut, these methods are usually harsh on the digestive system and don’t address the root causes of IBS.

Why cleanses may not be helpful for IBS:

1. Restrictive and Low in Nutrients: Many cleanses lack fiber and essential nutrients, which can lead to imbalanced digestion and energy crashes.

2. High in Fermentable Sugars: Juice-based cleanses, in particular, are often high in sugars like fructose, which can trigger symptoms in those with IBS.

3. Can Disrupt Gut Balance: The gut relies on a diverse array of bacteria to function properly. Rapid or extreme changes in diet can disrupt this balance, often worsening bloating and discomfort.

Instead of extreme cleanses, a sustainable, evidence-based approach that includes:

1. Low-FODMAP Diet: Identify specific trigger foods that may be causing symptoms.

2. Adequate Fiber: Include gentle, soluble fibers like oats and chia to support digestion without irritation.

3. Stress Management: Techniques like meditation and mindfulness can help regulate the gut-brain connection.

There’s no quick fix for IBS, but with small, consistent changes, you can feel a big difference over time! 🌿✨

Fact: IBS is a real, medically recognized condition with both physical and emotional impacts. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to treating IBS. Treatment options will vary based on the type of IBS, specific symptoms, individual factors like triggers and co-existing conditions.

Working closely with a healthcare provider, such as a dietitian, is key to developing a tailored approach.

It's Trans Week of Visibility and Action - a campaign created by to build power and support for trans young people and the organizers and communities fighting alongside them. 🏳️‍⚧️

This year, at least 27 states have introduced almost 100 healthcare bans targeting trans people. This includes bills attempting to ban and restrict gender-affirming health care for all trans people, such as hormone therapy, surgery, and non-medical support. The double standard here is that this care is normalized for cis folks and criminalized for trans folks.

When it comes to nutrition, trans people have unique health needs, and restricted access to appropriate and preventative care contributes to significant health disparities among the trans community. Dietitians and other healthcare professionals can help meet these needs by providing gender-affirming care.

What we can do to protect trans folks' rights to care:

1️⃣DEMAND lawmakers vote no on bans for gender-affirming care
2️⃣EDUCATE others on the importance of gender-affirming care, which is supported by major organizations like , , , and !
3️⃣ELEVATE gender-affirming care funds, crowd shares, and trans-led health organizations like:
