Dear NFL 'protestors',
You wear one kind of uniform, this young man wore another. Its not that we, the broader American people, cannot see, understand or even empathize with the cause(s) you are attempting to highlight. Its the manner in which you've chosen to do it.
We do not dispute that there is such a thing as inequality, we do not claim police brutality is a myth, we understand and even respect that you view yourselves as having a responsibility to use the platform you've been gifted with to spotlight causes you believe in. In some ways its a noble and honorable thing.
Its not your message so much but rather your chosen method for delivering it. That's our flag. That's our national anthem. Our forefathers and our children have lost lives and limbs in defense of them. When you kneel during its playing, or take a seat on the bench and have a snack while the rest of us take the same space of time to stand, place our hands over our hearts, respect, honor and remember those who've granted you the freedom to play a game for a living you send a message that is the antithesis of that which you believe yourselves to be sending.
If exposing the needs for some form(s) of social justice in our society is a passion of yours, fine. Passion is a good thing. You are surrounded by cameras and microphones all the time. You have far more social media followers than the rest of us and can get the attention of your local media at the drop of a hat.
But not our flag. Not our anthem. These we hold dear. As dearly and as passionately as you are about your causes so are we about ours. As a military father myself you slap the oath my son has taken to defend this nation with his very life if need be right in the face. This I will not tolerate. And it is for this reason I am no longer a consumer of your product.
You have choices to make and have made them. I have done the same. Goodbye NFL. At least for now. My decision is made.
