I did it. It's not much. But I picked up my paint brush and an old canvas tonight. I didn't know it then, but when I painted the storm-bent tree in 2015 "Bleeding Color", I was soon to go through something that would hurt me so bad it would affect my ability to express myself in every way... even how I communicate artistically 💔 strange how time can grant perspective. In the past 3 years all I've mustered to paint on canvas is a bird (a sapsucker of all birds, how ironic)...and this.

Another Cushman Colonial solid maple piece that a client wants lightned up & repaired. Lots of repairs! This will be a tall order but the trend seems to be whatever challenges me the most. Let's see how many 60 grit discs this baby will take! Don't worry, I'll finish smooth 😎

My first antique vanity, and first paint refinish since launching!
This had two layers of different paint colors on it before, and decades of varnishes and stains so it needed to be stripped to bare wood before painting. Which was a little bit painful 😅
This included the frame, six drawers and the trifold mirror as three different projects. Once painted with Magnolia Home's Winter Solstice blue all over, I dry brushed with antique matte true white to weather her down and sealed with a water based matte wax. The romance of this piece really impacts the space in real life- the pictures don't quite capture it!

Dear Etsy,

Is there some sort of initiation process for setting up shipping for curated furniture? No, I am not selling pretty cards or buttons or pins or jewelry. Why are there so many obstacles and freaking BRICK WALLS set up for furniture artists to sell on your site>??????? I've entered every possible option both in calculated costs and custom and STILL you give me an error message even though I've tried a hundred ways east to west with dozens of tweaked shipping profiles, but NONE of them supports the dimensions I need to ship. Is ETSY a cute acronym for Every Try Stops You? WHY. Just why.

I can't believe this is happening. But...I actually found something that is undiscoverable on the internet. You guys it's not even on YouTube! I wanted to see a video of how a papsan chair is made. I've tried Google, Duckduckgo, Waybackmachine archives, everywhere but I cannot find a single video on How to build a papasan chair! I'm not even that ambitious and I don't live close enough to rainforest so I ain't harvesting rattan 😆. I just want to see how they do it because that's how my brain works. Fun fact though...I think papasan chairs are the best furniture invention EVER, though I have never owned one myself (been on my wishlist for years!). The name Papasan is said to be a Japanese phrase that means "honoring the father", but how it got the name is still unknown 🤔
I just want to watch one papasan chair being constructed, the whole process. 😫 At least for me, it doesn't exist on the internet. Is it super classified like top secret intel or something?? 😞 Can anyone out there find such a thing?

God's Grace in Times of Discouragement

Thank you to all who have been encouraging me, who see me trying to change, and grow as a person. I pray that God returns blessing for your kindness and love. Please don't ever lose that quality about yourself ❤️
I don't think I am something that I'm not. I'm doing my very best to be faithful to God's call on my life to homeschool my kids & to provide for them. I'm not just flipping furniture. I am flipping the script in a positive way for my family. Just going to keep working hard and have faith. Because in the end, this really isn't about me at all. In the end what will count is, how did I use the talents given to me to bless others? How did I point others to Jesus by my example? I can't imagine that would include living on government assistance. With that I will leave you with probably the best advice I've ever found that wonderfully applies to entrepreneurship & really any business dealings in general:

"And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith." (Romans 12)

Make Big Goals… even if your steps are tiny!

Meet Mr. Cushman. He was cracked around the handles and really needed to lighten up. He came to me for therapy and i reassured him his best days were yet to come. Now he likes to spend his days reading Alexander Pope and Robert Frost while sipping hot coffee, and dreaming about becoming a cool surfboard one day.

Right now it's just wood. But the plan is, God willing of course, that as I grow I will also be able to offer smaller home accents & decor that is just as unique as YOU 💜 Such as: *hand-woven rattan cane baskets, *picture frames & *coffee table albums, office accessories like *pencil cups, *paper trays, *file boxes, & *mail organizers, *inspirational wall art & *quotes, *lamps & *lampshades (including pendant shades), *clocks (who doesn't love a good clock?), *candle holders, *pottery, *planters, & *plant stands, *stone-tiled floor mats, and much more. These pictures give a clue of what one of my first accent projects will become.
