There is plenty of room for small businesses to grow in our small town. At The Rooted Ritual Apothecary, we believe a strong small business community is built through collaboration, not exclusivity.

Building a small business takes an incredible amount of work, investment, sacrifice and perseverance. We understand that firsthand, which is why we will never ask a maker or vendor to limit their growth or turn down opportunities with other local businesses in order to work with us.

There are so many ways we can support the same local makers while still maintaining the individuality of our businesses. A candle maker can create different scents or collections that complement each store. An herbalist can develop different formulas. A skincare maker can offer different products or varieties based on what fits each shop and its customers. We can make each space unique without limiting someone else’s opportunity to succeed.

We want the makers we work with to grow. We want their products in more places. We want more people to know their names and support what they have worked so hard to build. Their success is something to celebrate, regardless of which storefront it happens in.

Supporting local means more than asking people to shop small. It means small businesses supporting each other, recommending each other and creating opportunities for each other. Someone else succeeding doesn’t take anything away from what you’re building.

McHenry has an incredible community of makers, entrepreneurs and independently owned businesses. There is plenty of room for all of us to grow, and I’d much rather see us helping each other get there. 🤎🌿
