Yet another truck for the NJ Deer Control fleet! Not only do they have a patented all natural spray repellant.....they are great guys!

New Jersey Deer Control, LLC
I have known and recommended the team at New Jersey Deer Control, LLC for over a decade now. Very familiar with their product and service, many of our clients have been using them to protect landscapes that we have installed. Chris, Mark, Spiro & RJ are all "true Professionals" who care deeply about their product and its results. Their "proprietary deer repellent" is weather resistant, odorless and transparent and works extremely well on our property. Comfortable having our dogs and daughter playing in the yard right after application, I always speak highly of this professional team. I have even lectured with Chris about deer resistant plants and if I could sum up his character and that of his team it would be two words: Passion & Knowledge. Great information on how to handle baby deer on your property from the NJ division of fish and wildlife!

In the spring and summer months, you may find what appears to be sick, injured or orphaned wildlife. New Jersey Fish and Wildlife urges you to leave young wildlife undisturbed. Every year, especially around this time, the lives of many young animals are disrupted. Well-intentioned people may attempt to “save” these animals while most often, the mother is nearby.

If you find a young fawn laying alone, leave it where it is. Fawns that are not strong enough on their legs are left alone while the adult deer spend much of the day feeding and exploring. The mother comes back several times each day to nurse the fawn. If you've already picked the fawn up and brought it home, put it back. Even one or two days after removal from the wild, fawns can reunite with their mothers by returning them to where they were found. Usually young fawns are quite safe because their color pattern and lack of scent help them to remain hidden until their mother's return.

For more information on what to do if you find young wildlife, visit www.njfishandwildlife.com/bornwild.htm

Please remember that it is illegal to attempt to keep wild animals as pets in New Jersey.

This happy customer in Oakland, NJ was able to see how our product works through their front door camera. Our natural, environmentally friendly product is hand placed with a light mist on all of your flowers, trees, and shrubs. As you can see in this video, the deer catches a scent it doesn't like on the plantings in the front foundational bed and decides to move on to another property.

As the deciduous plants turn their autumn colors, deer begin to seek out evergreens as an alternative food source. Rhododendrons, arborvitae, hollies, and yews are just a few species that are targeted by deer in late fall and winter. Extensive deer damage can have lasting effects to the appearance and health of these plants for years to come.

Fall is the best time of year to plant spring bulbs and Virginia Bluebells are a great deer resistant option. They are a native flower that thrives in shady and wet areas. Allowing the bulb to have a cold period through the winter will ensure a healthy flower in the spring.

Looking for a deer-resistant plant that provides value to your landscape late in the season? The Blue Mist Shrub (Caryopteris clandonensis) will bloom right through September, providing shades of purple and blue to your landscape. The best part is, pollinators love it, but the deer don't!

DID YOU KNOW: White-tailed deer eat poison ivy! The "urushiol" oil only irritates humans, our native wildlife are completely unaffected by its itchy effects. In fact, deer and other NJ wildlife actually depends on it for shelter and food.

Seeing multiple bucks on your property? That's not uncommon! This time of year young bucks are often observed in "bachelor groups". The males travel and feed together in these groups for a couple months while their antlers are still growing. Biologists believe that they likely do this to establish a dominance hierarchy, a sort of pecking order, before the fall mating season. Essentially the bucks are sizing each other up. What looks like a group of friends today will soon be fierce competitors!

Are you looking to help the pollinators but don't know what to plant because of deer? Here are a few options to help bees and butterflies while avoiding excessive deer damage:

1. Milkweed- this family of flowers is essential for monarch butterflies, but the toxic compounds in the plant keep deer from munching.

2. Anise Hyssop- a mid to late summer flower in the mint family, its powerful scent overwhelms deer's noses, but will attract a variety of pollinators to your yard. An added benefit is song birds will love to eat the seeds during the post-bloom period.

3. Lavender- Similiar to the hyssop, lavendar's powerful scent overwhelm's the deer's senses, but attracts avariety of general pollinators like bumblebees and honey bees.

4. Great Blue Lobelia- Also called blue cardinal flower, this perennial contains toxic compounds that the deer tend to stay away from. It grows great in rain gardens, and is a native plant attracting a wide variety of moths, butterflies, and bees.
