People complain about how materialism has overtaken the spirit of Christmas in modern times, but this postcard demonstrates how wallets were strained, even back in 1910!

Nothing says Christmas like poinsettias and they are found adorning many postcards. The custom of associating poinsettias with Christmas is said to have started in 16th century Mexico when a poor girl gathered the colorful weeds she found and placed them at the altar as her gift to the Baby Jesus. The star shape of the blooms represents the star that shone on the night of Jesus' birth, the red represents the blood sacificed for us and the white centers, purity. Whatever the origin, they are a beautiful plant and this postcard represents them beautifully!

Today's postcard is an unsigned work of German artist, Pauli Ebner. The little pierrots (clowns) help a girl across the ice. Very sweet!

Today's postcard was published by John Winsch. His cards were always very high quality. This one is quite lovely with embossing and vivid colors. It was postmarked 1922, but I think it dates back to pre-WWI, as not many cards were imported from Germany after that time.

Today's charming postcard shows a girl carrying a big basket of holly through the snow. She is walking towards a village, perhaps to share her bounty. It has writing on the back but was not posted or dated. I estimate that it was produced around 1920.

Today's Christmas postcard shows a sweet angel praying a prayer asking that heaven bless you this Christmas. We could all use a prayer during Christmas 2020!

I'm going to post a Christmas postcard a day this month. Most are available for sale on eBay. This one is a bit unusual in that it uses an airplane to convey Christmas greetings. It must have been very "modern" back in the day!

I've listed several "Billet Doux" (translates as "love letter") Postcards. They are part of a series of months of the year. Unfortunately, I don't have a complete set. These postcards feature a little envelope on the face with 2 tiny pieces of note paper inside along with mailing instructions: the card can be mailed with the sender's name and address inside the unsealed envelope for one cent postage, or if a message is written and placed inside the envelope, the postage is two cents. I guess this is one way to prevent snoopy postmen from reading personal messages, like love notes! These images are for the month of July.

I had some fun listing some RPPC's of people. I find them to be a fascinating way to see how people really were back near the early part of the 20th century. I found this card with no identification of the men in the photo. I assume one is "Bill" and he may be related to Liva Laughlin in Hillman MI because her told her to "remember me to the folks". My first reaction to the postcard was "Mario and Luigi"!

I love the humor in the RPPC real photo postcard from 1906 of two women standing behind a (presumably) real estate sign "For Sale or Lease" (one of them is marked "sold" by the sender).
