The victory must be for the animals!

Much gratitude to the citizens of Manvel and their city leaders. Let’s all persist in the right direction and never settle for less when it comes to the animals. They depend on our compassion to prosper and live healthily. Bear in mind, every minor deed adds up to a major change. Whether it's backing local shelters, engaging in adoption events, or just raising awareness, every action is valuable.

Let's persist in championing their welfare and secure a brighter, more compassionate future for all living beings. United, we can effect a substantial change and foster a community where empathy is paramount.

Continue to raise awareness.

📍First step is to stop ✋the proposed languages that are backwards that don't protect the welfare and future of animals.

Manvel families deserve transparency, public service, and democratic governance. Trust is vital for a thriving community, built through open communication and accountability. Leaders should prioritize the people's best interests, welcoming feedback for responsive governance. Public servants should be skilled, empathetic, and inclusive to address community needs. ROUNDTABLE MEETING UPDATE:
Monday 7/29/2024 | 5:00PM City Hall

07/20/2024

[1st video: length 3:50] 🎥 The City of Manvel is imposing laws that are causing more harm than good to us and the animals once more! There are loopholes everywhere!

Ordinance 2024-0-27 has faced criticism for potentially inciting harassment, harming animals, and penalizing individuals who expose inhumane conditions or advocate for improved treatment, all under the guise of preventing animal abandonment. The sole proposed provision that might address these concerns, provided it is properly formulated, is ARTICLE I Sec. 8-9, concerning Registration and Micro-Chipping.

The elected officials, aware that appending an additional ten (10) pages to the document would have a significant effect on many citizens, didn’t care to inform their constituents to foster public involvement and input. Moreover, they chose to expedite the process discreetly to minimize public scrutiny and avoid substantial opposition or debate. This lack of transparency and the swift advancement of such an important legal document have left many in the community feeling overlooked, disregarded and VERY FRUSTRATED. Considering the residents' ongoing dissatisfaction with the Council's earlier decision to collaborate with Houston Humane and their doubts about the program's success, the Council is exacerbating the situation by enforcing this hastily composed new ordinance on the community.

This ordinance raises several concerns, such as the violation of individual property rights. Additionally, it grants animal control officers the authority to label animals as nuisances due to the production of an "offensive odor," allowing them to remove the animals from their owners. It puts rescuers at risk, which will lead to more killing, by forcing them to meet the requirements of a cattery or kennel to rescue, not exempting foster-based rescue groups, forcing rescuers to open up their homes to animal control officers as many times as the animal control officer wants, while giving animal control sole discretion to deny the rescue kennel license.

Additionally, the lack of clarity in its language leaves room for varied interpretations, potentially leading to inconsistent enforcement. Critics argue that the ordinance could disproportionately affect certain communities, exacerbating existing inequalities.

Furthermore, the implementation costs could strain municipal budgets, diverting funds from essential services. Advocates for revision suggest engaging with a diverse group of stakeholders to create a more balanced and equitable solution.

More importantly, give the process time. By fostering open dialogue and considering the broader implications, there is an opportunity to develop a framework that respects property rights while addressing the underlying concerns the ordinance aims to solve.

Please continue to follow my posts so together we can be the voice for the animas and have animal ordinances that protect the animals not ones that work against those who save them.
