I hope everyone’s week has been going well so far. Mine has been going pretty good. Had a really nice/relaxing weekend with Eric, which was way overdue. In my last post I said I was going to try to write, but I didn’t. Life got away from me and I totally forgot about my goal. But that’s ok! I choose to give myself grace and not beat myself up over it, because life is tough enough without that negativity. I’ve been working on these beautiful sunburst granny squares and I am OBSESSED!! No matter how hard I try, I can’t loosen my tension so they came out really tight and wouldn’t lay flat so I’m currently blocking them. I have made a bunch but don’t know what I want to make with them. Maybe tote bags? I would love to hear your ideas! Let me know!

Look at this beautiful Wickedly Handmade hook rest I got in the mail the other day!! You can’t see it very well in this picture but the writing is all rainbow colored 🌈. I love it so much and love how the hook/rest combo fit my dark but often vibrant/whimsical vibe perfectly! Thank you!!!

After a kind of weird weekend (well, that’s a lie, more like week), my mind is starting to feel more positively balanced and less erratic and toxic. I accidentally missed 5 days of one of my mental health meds and have had a very difficult time coming back down to earth. Not being in control of your thoughts or emotions is scary af. But I made it through. And not only did I survive, I navigated that unstable time in a much healthier way than I have a tendency towards. Which is pretty damn awesome🤍 I’m trying to channel as much of this positive energy as I can into this being an amazing week.

This evening’s vibe has been much needed. Watching Star Wars (can anyone guess which one?!?) while crocheting some vibrant sunburst granny squares using this beautiful handmade crochet hook (🔊 SHOUTOUT: Wickedly Handmade!!!). Oh! and not pictured is gingerale and a weird (but amazing) trolli gummy pop. This is my kind of self care.

I was thinking I need to add a few more positive activities to my weekly routine for my self care and i really miss writing. My Dad was a writer. ✍️ (I actually published a book of his poems!!)It makes me feel closer to him. It has always helped clear my mind. So this week I’m going to try to write at least twice. Maybe a poem. Maybe an open letter. Maybe a few journal entries. Maybe even all of it…ok, nope, that’s another lie 🤣 But! I am going to make time to be present and put pen to paper because I know it will help me and I’m worth the effort.

I encourage you all to try to add something positive to your routine a few nights a week. What do you think you’re going to do for your self care activity? Whatever it is, try not to set tight limits on it and be kind to yourself if it doesn’t go the away you expected it to.

I hope you’re all having an amazing weekend. I’ve had a rough mental health day but did some self care which has me feeling better. We got ice cream earlier, watched Star Wars (A New Hope) and I’m working on a new project, so things are looking up. I’ll share a sneak peek of that one next time 🧶 But for now, I wanted to share this project with you that I’ve been working on on and off for a little over a month. It’s a custom order for a very dear friend (more like a second Mom to me) to gift to her 3 granddaughters. The yarn is a lighter weight than I had anticipated so I’ve doubled up on it so the blanket will be warmer and will work up faster. It will be about queen sized when I’m finished, so I have a long ways to go, but so far I really like how it’s turning out. What do you think?

Beth and I had a blast yesterday at the Great Lakes Fiber show! I met the legendary Twisted Hatter aaaand Andrea Williams from Wickedly Handmade!!!! We waited in line for nearly 4 hours, and my back is still sore as hell but it was so worth it because look at the beautiful hook I scored!! It’s a 3 eyed amethyst cat and I am absolutely flipping obsessed. I’ve already used it and while it is a lot heavier than I’m used to, it fits perfectly in my hand and I love it already. I also scored a few beautiful skeins of hand dyed yarn, one from laughingcatfibers that is just simply stunning. No plans for those yet, but I can’t wait to make something with them. We met a lot of really sweet people and I got some advice for my stalled hexi cardigan project that has renewed my motivation to start working on that again when I get home, which I’m super excited for! Even though I don’t use stitch markers much, I saw these stellar ones from alleghenyfiberarts and couldn’t say no. Overall it was a lovely day spent meeting some great people who share my love for crochet and fiber arts in general.

Today i traveled to OH and finally met my home girl Beth! Some of you may remember Beth helped with the BGBKD social media for a bit. We met in an adhd yarn swap group a little over a year ago. We bonded quickly and have basically been besties ever since. She has been there for me through some tough s**t and today, I actually got to give her a hug 🤍 we will be venturing to the Great Lakes Fiber Show on Saturday and we are both super pumped! I’m looking forward to meeting some other crochet baddies and will be on the hunt for a custom crochet hook. I’ll be sure to post some pics from the show! Till then, bee good. 🐝🤍
