Fly Fishing Treasures

A few large antique pike flies from the UK. Can you imagine casting these?

Greatly saddened by the death of my friend Rick Bannerot. Rick lead a life in full—a phenomenal angler, photographer and sportsman. He was also my favorite reader and editor for my books and gave generously of his heart and time to the Anglers’ Club of New York and his friends. My condolences to his family and all of his many friends.

Looking forward to the Battenkill Fly Fishing Festival this week April 30-May 2nd in Arlington, VT. I will speak there about Mary Orvis Marbury on Sat. May 2nd and sign books.

Recently found some beautiful watercolors of flies that were featured in books by Charles Orvis and John Harrington Keene in the 1880s and 90s. Lovely work by an unknown artist.

I am told by salmon fly expert Martin Lanigan O’Keeffe that the last salmon fly in the bottom corner of Panel 27 of the World’s Columbian Exposition fly plates in my book is The Toppy—a Scrope Tweed pattern. This pattern was also featured in one of John Harrington Keene’s books.

Congratulations to on the opening of her art show at in Brooklyn. Her paintings are now on view in the art gallery at the Watermark through May 30th.

Room trading finds at Gettysburg Antique Tackle Show.

Antique Tackle Show in Gettysburg, PA April 3-4th. Will speak about the History of the Orvis Company there on April 2nd.
