Myth: OTs only work with people recovering from injuries. ❌

Reality: "occupation" just means any meaningful activity you need or want to do. This could be brushing your teeth, cooking dinner, or playing a sport.

OTs may find themselves helping young students learn how to follow directions, participate in tabletop learning tasks, and engage in fine-motor activities, all while considering the physical, cognitive, and environmental factors that affect each individual, allowing them to tailor treatment accordingly.

Every individual brings a unique perspective. Learning in a close cohort lets students compare notes, test approaches, and learn how to interpret a situation so that the client receives the best outcome.

During labs, our OTD students take turns as both practitioner and client, feeling the pace, the physical demands, and even the uncertainty of a new task from the other side.

It's not a real client experience, but it's enough to prompt important questions about comfort, dignity, communication, and choice.
