This weather is nothing. Just makes me want to hunt muskox, ptarmigan, and seals with the Inuit. Really enjoyed chores tonight. The air made me feel alive.

Headed home after 9 months grazing. Could keep going but saving some stockpile for spring.

Looks like it will be time to fire up the qulliq and eat some muktuk.
Bitter cold on the way for the end of the week. On top of that... gusty northwest winds are expected. Put the two together and it makes for dangerous wind chills Friday night into Saturday. This is a look at forecast wind chills for 6am Saturday.

Good morning

Love is in the air.

I don’t even know what day of the week it is…

Fall stuff
Heard an AT&T radio commercial for Maine featuring an angry “moose” sound effect. One problem it’s actually a recording of a red deer stag roaring. 🙄 They seriously thought Maine people weren’t going to know what a moose sounds like??? Another good reason to not have AT&T.

Happy Veterans Day. Thank you to all who served honorably.

If diesel gets any higher I may have to walk the sheep back to the Port from E. Machias. May be some minor traffic delays around the Rim bridge. Probably not quite this congested though.

Some replacement ewe hoggs and beeves fall grazing.

Old Celtic and Indian saying: Keep your friends close. Keep your friends with excavators closer.

Island Shepherd

Early fall shepherding. Now that she feels better Fae has been busy. She is becoming a useful dog.

Mabel is wearing red today to support Maine lobstermen.

R: Mow the side of the lane wuntchah.

Can strong wool make a comeback?
We grow strong wool in Maine. If you like green healthy landscapes and want to help support farmers and rural communities purchasing wool products can help accomplish that.
How can you do that you ask?
A good start would be to attend the Machias Fiber Festival at the Elm St. School in East Machias this Saturday. Doors open at 9:00 am and close at 5:00 pm. Watch this short documentary and you may be very surprised to see some of the products utilising wool.

Think you are fit? Try shearing 1365 lambs in 24 hrs. Monumental achievement for great causes.
Flying undermines graced the shearing board today as Welshman Phil Grove set the seal on a successful Solo 24hr shearathon which took place in Gower of Wales, 5th & 6th August 2022.
The shearing tally for each of the 12 two-hour runs were consistently above 100 and without sleep over the last two days Phil managed to cross the finishing line in style conquering a mighty personal best record, shearing 1365 Lambs in 24 hours.
12 Two-hour Runs: 123, 114, 111, 111, 118, 113, 108, 100, 106, 114, 112, 135 = 1365 Mule and Hill breed Lambs.
One of the reasons why Phil put himself through this gruelling challenge, his wish is to give back to Macmillan Cymru Wales who helped his family and his grandfather who unfortunately suffered with cancer.
Over the years, Phil has worked and travelled extensively around south Wales, but in recent years, he has come to know of people sadly taking their own lives within the agricultural sector, so his wish is to get in behind and lend a hand to The DPJ Foundation who kindly support the Welsh Agricultural sector and the people who are currently struggling with mental suffering.
Phil just wants to give back to those who have proven to be strong support for his community, so if, you would like to get in behind Phil and the challenge he has endured for these two causes please follow the donation links
