***Press Release***

The LCPS School Administration and the Lunenburg Sheriff's Office learned of a threat this morning at Central High School, but were able to quickly determine the identity of the student who made the threat to friends over a past incident. Officials deemed that the situation does not pose a threat to any schools at this time. There has not been, nor will there be any closing of schools. The parents of the child are cooperating and have helped to determine that the child was extremely angry over past incidents that occurred. Charges are pending.

PRESS RELEASE FROM LUNENBURG & CHARLOTTE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE

On September 28, 2022, members of the Tri-County Drug and Gang Task Force arrested a wanted individual and seized methamphetamine.

On September 28, 2022 members of the task force observed Weldon Shea Armstrong in the Keysville area of Charlotte County. Task Force members held multiple indictments for drug distribution for Armstrong. The offenses which occurred within the past year in Lunenburg County led to the encounter. Armstrong was arrested without incident, and a subsequent search resulted in the seizure of approximately one ounce of methamphetamine and packaging materials.

​Armstrong, age 36, was placed under arrest on six felony counts of Distribution of Schedule II Controlled Substance and two counts of Distribution of Schedule II Controlled Substance within a School Zone. Armstrong was also wanted on charges of felony Failure to Appear in the Lunenburg County Circuit Court. Charges will be forthcoming on the drugs seized subsequent to the arrest in Charlotte County.

The Tri-County Drug and Gang Task Force is made up of narcotics investigators from the Lunenburg County Sheriff’s Office, Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, and the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Appomattox Field Office. Assisting in the arrest were Deputies from the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office and Troopers from the Virginia State Police Support Services Division Area 73.

Sheriff Townsend (Lunenburg) and Sheriff Freeman (Charlotte) expressed their gratitude to the law enforcement officers involved in the arrest.

Sheriff Freeman would like to “thank the community for their support in aiding law enforcement to rid neighborhoods of dangerous drugs.” If anyone has information regarding narcotics distribution or other crimes please call the Lunenburg County Sheriff's Office at 434-696-4452, Charlotte County Sheriff's Office at 434-542-5141, or the Virginia State Police at 1-800-552-0962.”

PRESS RELEASE

A traffic stop by members of the Tri-County Drug and Gang Task Force leads to the arrest of a wanted individual and seizure of guns and co***ne. On September 14, 2022 members of the task force observed a motor vehicle operated by Lennie Edward Coles Jr. of Victoria on KV Road. Task Force members held multiple indictments for Coles which led to the stop. Coles was arrested and a subsequent search resulted in the seizure of approximately 84 grams (3 ounces) of co***ne, 2 handguns, scales, and a large amount of currency.

Lennie E. Coles Jr (28) was arrested and is currently facing charges for six counts of Distribution of Schedule II Substance Second Offense and one count of Distribution of Schedule II within a School Zone. Charges are pending on the items seized during the traffic stop.

The Tri-County Drug and Gang Task Force is made up of narcotics investigators from the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, Lunenburg County Sheriff’s Office, and the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation Appomattox Field Office. Assisting in the arrest were Deputies from the Lunenburg County Sheriff’s Office and Troopers from the Virginia State Police Bureau of Field Operations.

Sheriff Arthur Townsend Jr. would like to "thank the law enforcement community for their hard work in bringing this investigation to a close and removing dangerous drugs and weapons from Lunenburg County." A representative of the task force stated "if anyone has information regarding narcotics distribution or other crimes please call the Lunenburg County Sheriff's Office at 434-696-4452, Charlotte County Sheriff's Office at 434-542-5141, or the Virginia State Police at 1-800-552-0962.

On Sunday, September 11, 2022, the Lunenburg County Sheriff’s Office received a threat against the Lunenburg County Public Schools by way of the Sheriff’s Office page. The Sheriff contacted the Superintendent of the schools and advised him of the situation, at which time the Superintendent, in an abundance of caution, closed all public schools and school board offices for Monday, September 12, 2022.
The Lunenburg County Sheriff’s Office contacted the Virginia State Police High Tech Crime Division to investigate the information and locate the source. The Lunenburg County Sheriff’s Office will continue to monitor the situation and Deputies/School Resource Officers will continue to patrol each school for the safety of the community, as they re-open on Tuesday, September 13, 2022.

On Tuesday afternoon August 2nd our neighbors around Lunenburg County joined together to celebrate National Night Out. National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.
