DIY Bioplastic Suncatchers
Materials:
- 1 cup water
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon vegetable glycerin
- 1 teaspoon white vinegar
- Pink food coloring (gel or liquid)
- Fully dried, pressed flowers
- Optional: dried herbs or tiny leaves
Directions:
1. In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of water, 1 tablespoon of cornstarch, 1 teaspoon of vegetable glycerin, and 1 teaspoon of white vinegar. Stir thoroughly until the mixture is smooth.
2. Place the saucepan over low heat. Stir the mixture continuously for 2 to 4 minutes, until it becomes glossy and thick.
3. Once thickened, remove the saucepan from heat. Add the pink food coloring to the mixture and stir until it is evenly tinted.
4. Prepare your heart-shaped molds by arranging the dried flowers in them. Feel free to also add dried herbs or tiny leaves for extra decoration.
5. Carefully pour the warm bioplastic mixture into the molds, filling them to your desired thickness. Gently tap the molds to release any trapped air bubbles.
6. Allow the suncatchers to dry at room temperature. For thin ornaments, let them dry for 24 to 48 hours, and for thicker ones, allow up to 72 hours.
7. Once dry, carefully remove the suncatchers from the molds. Use a hole punch to create a hole at the top of each suncatcher, then thread a piece of twine through the hole for hanging.
Tips & Variations:
1. Customize the colors of your suncatchers by experimenting with different food coloring shades or mixing colors to create unique hues.
2. If you want to add more texture, try layering different types of dried flowers, herbs, or leaves before pouring in the bioplastic mixture. This will create a more intricate design

RED Crayon Suncatchers
Ingredients:
- RED crayons
- Waxed paper
- Embroidery floss or string
Directions:
1. Gather your materials: RED crayons, waxed paper, and embroidery floss or string.
2. Select your favorite RED crayons and peel off the wrappers.
3. Use a sharpener to create shavings from the crayons. Aim for a nice pile of shavings to achieve a vibrant suncatcher.
4. Spread the crayon shavings evenly on a large sheet of waxed paper.
5. Cut a second sheet of waxed paper to match the size of the first one and place it over the shavings, covering them completely.
6. With an adult's help, set your iron to the lowest setting and gently iron over the top sheet of waxed paper. Move the iron back and forth quickly for about 10 to 15 seconds, watching carefully until the crayon shavings begin to melt.
7. Once melted, remove the iron and let the waxed paper cool completely and harden. This could take a few minutes.
8. After cooling, draw raindrop shapes on the hardened wax with a pencil or pen. Get creative with different sizes and shapes if you like.
9. Use scissors to carefully cut out the raindrop shapes from the cooled wax.
10. Punch a hole at the top of each raindrop using a hole puncher, making sure it's big enough for the embroidery floss or string to fit through.
11. Thread a piece of embroidery floss or string through each hole and tie a knot to secure it.
12. Hang your finished RED raindrop suncatchers near a window to enjoy the colorful light display.
Tips & Variations:
- Experiment with different shades of Green crayons or mix in a few other colors for a multicolored effect when melting the shavings.
- To make seasonal variations, try using different shapes for different holidays, like hearts for Valentine's Day or leaves for autumn.
