Hollywood scenes living in my mindâŚ
When I designed this dining room, I wasnât just thinking color and form. I was thinking cinema. The cool celadon walls, silk drapery panels drawn just so, and the soft white light diffused through sheers⌠all echo that moody elegance Iâve always loved in 1950s and â60s film interiors.
Think Designing Woman sophistication. Think Lauren Bacall: those tailored silhouettes, the blonde waves, and the impossibly chic sets. Even the pale wood of the chair is a quiet nod to her iconic style and polished presence.
Because the art we consume lives in usâand sometimes, it finds its way into a room.

Before & After: A Total Apartment Transformation
I love breathing life back into these buildings! This one especially had plenty of promiseâjust waiting for the right update.
This mid-century complex got a fresh new identity:
Crisp white stucco, seafoam glass tile, and soft blue doors now bring in the coastal calm. We also said goodbye to a worn-out pool and reimagined the courtyard as an open-air community hub with palms, planters, and space to gather.
What was once dark and dated is now bright, welcoming, and serene.
Whatâs your favorite part of this dramatic renovation? Iâd love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
(And if projects like this spark ideas, Iâm always happy to chat.)

This living room had been whispering for yearsâuntil it finally let the owners know it was time.
Now? Elevated. Literally.
⨠Dual-level drapery hardware draws the eye up
⨠Linen sheers + silk panels = filtered glow
⨠Warm tones from lighting, fabric, and paint
⨠A few personal paintings = their space, their story

What a wonderful LA Legends event with the incomparable Michael Smith! Such a treat to hear him speak about his storied design career, his inspirations, and the power of detailsâlike embroidered ostrich feathers on curtain panels. A genius touch, adding just the right amount of movement and drama.
His storytelling, design wisdom, warmth, and humor made for an unforgettable afternoon.
When I opened Classic by Design at home, it landed right on this daffodil-filled page. And there on my hand, my daffodil ring⌠a symbol of strength and a sweet reminder of where I grew up. Sometimes life and design come together in the most poetic ways.
Thank you, Michael Smith, for the inspirationâand for the kind words inscribed in my copy.

For this Motherâs Day, Iâm reflecting on the many nurseries Iâve had the joy of designingâbut this one holds a special place in my heart. What made it so meaningful wasnât just the playful âunder the seaâ theme, but the heartfelt involvement of the parents.
Dad hand-painted the whimsical ocean murals, and Momâa talented writerâmade sure there was a cozy spot for storytime. My favorite touch? The Opuzen coral linen curtains , hand-screened and full of charm, that beautifully pulled the whole space together.
Hereâs to the magic that happens when love, creativity, and intention come togetherâespecially in spaces made for the littlest ones.

Met the talented Carly Beck at the opening of Nathan Turnerâs gorgeous new showroom and loved our quick chat about art, dogs, and design! Her playful pet portraits are full of wit and warmthâsuch a treat to see them in person.
Thinking about adding a little whimsy to your walls? Commission a portrait of your pup and pair it with my Design R Dogs toile wallpaper for a layered look that celebrates your furry family in style. Frame it. Hang it. Done.
Big shout out to Carlyâgive her a follow! Her work is bursting with charm!

Design lovers, this was such a treat! I joined a painting intensive led by Senior Gracie artist Taki Watanabe and got to create my own little Gracie-inspired scene to take home. So fun to step away from a misty L.A. âMay Grayâ day and spend a little time dabbling in their world of timeless beauty.
And yesâthatâs my signed copy of The Art of Gracie from Jenn Gracie herself. âStart with the walls,â she wrote⌠donât have to tell me twice!
Dreaming up the perfect project to bring some of this hand-painted magic to life.

This family room started as a garageâno windows, no natural light, just potential. I leaned into the mood with rich Prussian blue chenille, soft faux fur, and velvet pillows in smoky gray and chartreuse. Now itâs a favorite hangout for the teenagers in the house, who love the cozy, darkened vibe for movie nights with friends. Proof that with the right textures and a little vision, even the darkest corners can become the coziest spot in the house.

I designed this living room for an elegant couple who dreamed of a space where generations could gather and memories would unfold. Clean, contemporary lines anchor the room, while soft light filters through sheer panels to create a warm, inviting glow.
Touches like embroidered silk, sculptural art, and layered textures reflect a life well-traveledâand a deep love of home. The piano holds pride of place, always ready to fill the space with the gentle notes of Clair de Lune. A space for beauty, connection, and timeless living.

Stepping out of the studio and into natureâs gallery. Huntington Gardens offered endless inspirationâlayered textures, striking silhouettes, and color stories that rival any design board. A quiet reminder that the best design begins with thoughtful observation.
