On this 10th day of Dhul Hijjah, the Day of Sacrifice, we’re revisiting a post first published in 2020 in conjunction with our friends Masjid el-Tawhid - The Unity Mosque
In today’s world of factory farming, “ethical animal sacrifice” is a contradiction. Animal sacrifice is not a mandatory prescription or ritual according to many schools of Islamic thought, for...
“The flesh and blood of these sacrificed animals does not reach God, it is only your piety that reaches Them”. - Qur’an 22:37

Ample evidence shows the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) is carrying out genocide in Sudan, sustained by external backing from the UAE. Despite these reports, the US continues to supply weapons to the UAE.
2 bills have been introduced in the House (HR 2059) and the Senate (S.935) that would prohibit the sales of covered defense articles to the the UAE until the UAE ceases providing material support to the RSF.
Take action here - https://bit.ly/4fzpKAE - and tell your representatives to stop the UAE from fueling genocide in Sudan!

Muslims for Progressive Values is pleased to share that its submission was included in the annual report of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights on combating religious intolerance and discrimination.
MPV’s submission highlighted the importance of protecting progressive Muslim voices advocating for inclusion, pluralism, gender equality, and freedom of belief.
The submission was authored by Noor Shaaban, a recent J.D. graduate and member of MPV’s Advocacy Subcommittee. Noor has supported MPV’s advocacy efforts before the United Nations and contributed to amicus briefs submitted before the U.S. Supreme Court.

Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed, to Him we will return.
Our prayers are with the victims of the Islamophobic attack on the Islamic Center of San Diego, their families and loved ones, and the entire Muslim community.
May God grant the highest place in Jannah to the deceased.

Today, on International Day of Families ( ), MPV is joining fellow members of the Global Campaign for Equality in Family Law (GCEFL) for Week of Action for equality in family law.
Family is considered the foundational unit of society. Yet around the world, discriminatory family laws continue to deny women and girls their fundamental rights, from the right to choose their own partners, to equal rights in divorce, custody, inheritance and property.
Without equality in the family, we cannot have equality in society.
The GCEFL brings together a coalition of 8 leading women's rights, human rights and faith-based organisations, all united in their commitment to the pursuit of legal equality in the family as a prerequisite for a world where woman and girl can reach their full potential.
This movement is gaining momentum. Family law reform is increasingly recognised at the UN and in regional and international decision-making spaces as foundational to achieving gender equality. SDG Indicator 5.1.1 has identified family law as one of four legal frameworks that must be reformed to accelerate progress for women and girls.
This week we will explore the global picture, and the evidence which shows the power of reform.

Mifepristone access is headed back to the Supreme Court, and so are we ⚖️
MPV joined 50+ faith organizations in an amicus brief to the Supreme Court to say: protecting religious freedom means preserving access to medication abortion — and that includes mifepristone.
As the legal battle over mifepristone moves through the Court, there's still work to do to protect access to medication abortion.
