In honor of Gary Eisenberg.
RIP
I lost another brother in music today.
Gary Eisenberg, I am sorry to hear you left us. I had seen you the last time at my 50th Birthday.
I know many things had changed in your life when we last spoke. I knew deep down how sensitive you were. I was not a musician like you were, but we shared the love for music and the musicians who played from heart and soul.
We cried together when we lost our friend Victor Pantoja. You and I recognized how lucky we were to spend all that time with him.
Today I cry for the loss of you my friend. I know what a good man you were. I know you are now in a better place and this is the only comfort I feel with your loss.
To the members of the Octavio Figueroa y La Combination and to all the musicians that played with him, I am sad today too.
We know you were a great man Gary, you and your positive musical energy will be missed.
Goodbye my friend. Rest in Peace Gary and give Pantoja a big kiss for me when you see him.
To The Mama Juana's Family.
I was informed through phone calls, Social Media and Emails early this morning about the sudden passing of Karla. Like all of us, I am sad and in complete shock.
Karla came to work for Mama Juana's as a manager and part of the opening team. From day one she jumped at the opportunity to promote and market what each of you know as Mama Juana's.
She became my confidant, friend and trouble making sister. We used to laugh because people who were regular customers actually thought we we're a married couple. I can still hear Karla gut laughing about it. The laughs and tears we shared are countless. We worked together daily and covered each other on days on and off.
Karla was the Social Chairwoman. She could rally her comadres like no one could. I got to meet all of her friends, female and male at all hours 24/7. She was a one of a kind.
I ask in memory of her that former staff, customers and friends, please post pictures of Karla on the Mama Juana's page.
I will post any information as I hear more regarding services and or financial needs for funeral services.
To Karla,
I will never forget our time working together. I am sorry we didn't get a last chance to talk. I am sad we didn't get to clear the air or say goodbye. I know you were a good person with a heart of gold. You also had a talented way of keeping people out past their bed time. AYE KARLA!
I know you are in a better place, free from any pain or ailments. Your mom now has her Karla to hang out with. Please say hi to Johnny Polanco for me and order yourself a Bacardi and Coke and put it on my tab. I am sad tonight.
I hope you are wearing your Mama Juana's dress tonight. You deserve it!
Rest in Peace mi Karlita.
I remember the day we got the call from one of Prince's handlers asking about the club and if we could reserve a table for him I ofcourse was beyond skeptical that it was all real. Figured what the hell, it was a weeknight and we were slow.
Sure enough albeit an hour late, a beautiful Panamanian woman walked in and sat a Prince's table and said she was waiting for him. I thought "this looks promising."
Then about 20 minutes later he walked in and sat down.
Prince became a regular when in town. Often coming in several times a week. He brought countless celebrities to Mama Juana's, told many others how we respected celebrity privacy and that brought many more. Prince truly loved Live Salsa music.
Thank you for your patronage, thank you for your music and thank you for the memories you brought to me personally and the Mama Juana's Family.
MAY YOU REST IN PEACE KNOWING YOU BROUGHT HAPPINESS THROUGH YOUR MUSIC, TALENT AND KINDNESS.
