LA this month sure is reminding us of 2020, the parts we’d like to forget and the ones we hope never to. The fires are still burning. The shock has not worn off. The land has started to slide. The work has barely begun.

During a rainy spell earlier this year, a retired couple came in for dinner. Without a reservation there was a bit of a wait, so they ordered a bottle of wine to share on our patio under the awning to pass the time till their table was ready. As it sprinkled, they reminisced telling us it was “super romantic. Feels like we’re back in Bangkok.”
Their words were a warm hug for us. Occasionally we’re asked or left a review about our “small outdoor stools.” Our guests who have visited Thailand know these stools and tables are identical to those all around our home country, where you can enjoy world-class street food in a humble communal setup. That night our patio setup and the soft sprinkle took these guests back in time to a special Thailand visit, and by sharing with us they created a core memory for our restaurant family. This is what we so deeply mean when we say we love serving our community.

In August 2004, after opening and closing several restaurants over the years, our parents Chef Andy and Anna opened Ayara Thai, mindfully entering into what would be their final endeavor in the food space. Growing up “restaurant kids,” us kids went off to college, postgrad, living in other cities in our 20s, and pursuing different careers for a time, but we ultimately returned to Ayara to carry on the torch of the family business. Our brother, Peter, a PGA Golf Pro, lends a hand on occasion for events and busier periods.
We are truly a family born and run operation, and working in the food biz is not for the faint of heart. We are encouraged by doing it together and with the support of our team and you, our guests, who have become part of the Ayara Thai family.

Our Story
Ayara Thai Cuisine continues the tradition of crafting delicious home-cooked food for those dining out.
Since Ayara Thai’s opening day, head chef Anna has used home-grown herbs in the restaurant’s dishes. Reflecting both the dishes she ate in the past, as well as her family’s values in sustainable dining, she ensures that all dishes are inspired by and prepared with only the freshest ingredients that the season has to offer.
Today, Anna and her husband Andy's family traditions are continued and developed into the third generation, through their daughter Vanda. Living and working in Thailand for four years has allowed Vanda to revive old family recipes, and discover new tastes and inspirations. After cooking with relatives and eating her way through the streets and countryside, it is these old recipes and new flavors that Vanda brings back to share at Ayara Thai.
With family recipes and cooking styles passed down through generations, the Asapahu family of Ayara Thai is pleased to offer a taste of authentic Thai food, where quality is never compromised. Using the freshest ingredients, each dish is prepared from scratch and enhanced individually by herbs and spices to ensure the boldest, most genuine flavors.
