Local author’s new novel returns to childhood ranch Los Altos author Karen Nelson recently celebrated the release of her second novel with a book launch in Menlo Park.

My last day of teaching creative writing at LAHS for the 2025-2026 schedule year! I had no idea when Susana aka "Ms. Herrera" contacted me back in September that it would turn into the adventure that it became. I was constantly surprised, entertained and inspired by the students in our class. Their work grew tremendously over the course of the year. What started as a room full of introverts turned into a joyful, boisterous writing community. Susana was an absolute joy to partner with and she is exactly the person you want influencing young minds. Her passion, enthusiasm and complete dedication to her students day in and day out was inspiring to see. I feel so lucky to now call her my friend. It turns out that when you try to teach students how to write, you learn just as much, if not more than they do.
