June 22, 1974 – The Open-Air Museum of Lithuania in Rumšiškės officially opened to the public. Created to preserve Lithuania’s disappearing rural heritage, the museum features authentic homes, churches, mills, and farm buildings relocated from different regions of the country, offering visitors a unique glimpse into traditional Lithuanian life. Today, it remains one of the largest and most important open-air museums in Europe. 🇱🇹

June 22, 1941 – The June Uprising began in Kaunas as members of the Lithuanian Activist Front and other patriots rose against Soviet rule. Hoping to restore Lithuania's independence after a year of Soviet occupation, the insurgents seized key locations, proclaimed the restoration of the Lithuanian state, and formed a Provisional Government. Although independence was not ultimately recognized, the uprising remains a powerful symbol of Lithuania's resistance to occupation and its determination to remain free. 🇱🇹

On June 21, 2000, the Lithuanian cargo vessel Linkuva disappeared in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Mexico while encountering Hurricane Carlotta. The ship carried a crew of 18 Lithuanian sailors, and despite an extensive international search, neither the vessel nor any crew members were ever recovered. In Klaipėda’s Sculpture Park, a memorial called “They Do Not Return from the Sea” honors the lost crew, and each year the memory of the fallen sailors is commemorated there.

Happy Birthday to Ričardas Berankis! 🎾🇱🇹 Born on June 21, 1990, in Vilnius, Lithuania, Ričardas Berankis is one of the most accomplished tennis players in Lithuanian history. He became the first Lithuanian to break into the ATP Top 50 rankings, won the 2007 US Open Boys’ Singles title, reached World Junior No. 1, and for many years proudly represented Lithuania as a key member of the Davis Cup team.

At the international Poland Open 2026 kickboxing tournament, which brought together more than 1,000 athletes from 15 countries, Lithuanian fighters delivered an impressive performance and returned home with three silver medals. 🇱🇹 Lithuanian shooters achieved outstanding results at an international competition in Estonia, with several athletes earning podium finishes. The biggest star of the event was Virgilijus Grybė, who triumphed in both the Open and Senior categories. Scoring 197 points out of 200, he became the absolute champion of the competition. 🏆🎯
