This past weekend, we had our 3rd and final session of the B.E.L.L. Success Academy.

It was a Woman in STEM Weekend! The 🚀

Our youth were privy to lessons and encouragement from:

Dr. Constance Meadors, Rocket Scientist and Director of the Arkansas Space Grant Consortium stated,
“I am the rule.” “Don’t let the world define you.” You are unique.” “You are loved.” You are not the exception, you are exceptional.”

Dr. Sharon Stevenson, Nurse Practitioner and Clinical Associate Professor in UAMS College of Nursing, who said, “I have no regrets about my career field.” “Don’t box yourselves in. The sky is the limit and you all can certainly take advantage of that.”

Dr. Lillian West, Internal Medicine Physician and Owner of Bear Fruit, LLC who shared, “Seeing someone being brought back to life clenched my career for me as a doctor.”

Dr. Tara DeJohn, Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Owner of Cardinal Counseling who encouraged that “College is a place where you can find your niche. Staying in school is important to your success.”

We are truly grateful for the wise words from each of our speakers and the individual time they spent with our students who expressed interest in STEM careers.

The B.E.L.L. Program Success Academy also works to relieve some of the food insecurity burdens experienced by the students we serve. We do this through partnerships like the one we have with Community Bakery’s CB Gives program. For our final session of the inaugural Success Academy, Community Bakery donated pastries and bagels to ensure our students were able to focus during the early morning events.

“CB Gives seeks to support the community in which we live and serve. Our program is funded from profits so we are grateful for the community that supports us which enables us to support our community.”
