Two of Cramer & Anderson’s senior staff members will continue a tradition of honoring the firm’s late Partner David Burke, who died as a result of a 2016 cycling accident, by participating in the 67-mile Ride the State event on June 28.
Jeremy Ruman, legal assistant to Partner Art Weinshank, and Denice Hull, the office administrator in New Milford, are being sponsored by the firm in the ride that will begin in New Haven and end at Connecticut’s Old Statehouse in Hartford.
Ride the State is presented by the nonprofit East Coast Greenway Alliance to highlight the need to close remaining gaps in the Farmington Canal Heritage Trail and Hartford Connector segments of the greenway, and to raise funds for greenway work.
Ruman and Hull are riding to support those efforts and primarily to honor David Burke, who was cycling near Bantam Lake on Route 209 in Morris on the morning of March 12, 2016, when his bike hit a pothole, and he was propelled into a guardrail. He was flown by Life Star helicopter to Saint Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, where he died March 15, 2016, his 63rd birthday.
The firm also has promoted cycling safety by donating “3 Feet – It’s the Law” roadside signs to New Milford, Danbury, and Morris in an initiative led by Partner John D. Tower.

Cramer & Anderson is seeking a full-time Paralegal to support our transactional/land use practice in the Litchfield office. Details are in the graphic. Interested candidates should submit a resume and a brief cover letter to Denice Hull by email at [email protected]

Congratulations to Cramer & Anderson Attorney Elizabeth "Lizzy" Gilbert for her work in this car accident case.
As the client's 5-star Google review explains, Personal Injury Partner Ryan Henry oversaw the case and connected the client with Attorney Gilbert after the client's experience with previous legal representation had left him in a precarious situation.
"She was able to settle my case, and even got the insurance company to pay more than the policy limit, because of the earlier mishandling of the case by their attorney," the client wrote. "She saved me from probable financial ruin."
It's a reminder that having highly experienced Personal Injury attorneys who truly care and put in 100+ percent for all clients is critical.

The Alien Registration Act has been around since 1940 and currently requires foreign nationals 14 or older to register with the government and be fingerprinted if they will be in the United States for 30 days or longer.
The law has not been regularly enforced, according to the American Immigration Lawyers Association, but President Donald Trump issued an executive order directing the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to ensure that aliens comply with the law and register with the government.
The effective date of the order was April 11, meaning noncitizens who have not already registered must register if they will remain in the U.S. past May 11.
Failure to comply with the registration requirement is being treated as a civil and criminal enforcement priority, but registering may lead to self-incrimination and immigration enforcement actions for undocumented noncitizens.
It is important to consult with an immigration attorney.

The 2025 Connecticut Preservation Awards from Preservation Connecticut include an Award of Merit for the conversion of the historic former Litchfield County Courthouse into The Abner hotel, which opened in September 2024 and has 20 guest rooms, The Courtroom restaurant, and Verdict: a seasonal rooftop bar.
Credit for the preservation and adaptive reuse of a defining Litchfield landmark that had been left vacant by the state largely goes to the Greater Litchfield Preservation Trust (GLPT), and Cramer & Anderson Partner Perley Grimes guided the effort to preserve and convert the historic courthouse in his role as president of and attorney for the GLPT.
In advocating for a boutique hotel conversion, the GLPT board specified that the hotel should have a restaurant and bar so the iconic building would remain accessible to the public.
Read our News post to learn more about the GLPT's preservation efforts in Litchfield and the 2025 Connecticut Preservation Awards, which will be celebrated at a dinner event May 8 at the New Haven Country Club.

University of Illinois Chicago researchers found that one-third of rideshare drivers surveyed in a study reported being involved in a crash while working. (The study was published in the Journal of Safety Research in April 2024.)
“Using a cellphone, driving while tired or driving on unfamiliar roads increased the likelihood of a crash, according to the study,” a release on the UIC Today website said.
In a new Cramer & Anderson website post, we take a look at the issue of liability in accidents involving Uber, Lyft and other rideshare drivers and vehicles.
Anyone injured in a Connecticut accident involving a rideshare driver, or any other type of accident, may contact Personal Injury Partner Ryan Henry by phone at 860-355-2631 or by email at [email protected].
