We Were Breached, Do We Have to Tell Anyone? 04/04/2025

We Were Breached, Do We Have to Tell Anyone?

Take a few hours, look at your data, and submit an online form. That’s all you may have to do!

For this article, our focus is on small to medium sized businesses based in Massachusetts.
First, if you leaked thousands of Social Security numbers, then this article isn’t for you.

But what if your breach was small?
Your breach may be relatively small. Perhaps your email was compromised, a file was misdirected, a laptop is hopelessly lost, or a google drive folder was shared too broadly.

You may be thinking:
“It only affected a few people” or
“I don’t think anyone was affected” or
“I don’t have social security numbers or credit cards in my email”

It is completely reasonable in most small breach situations, to just follow a few simple steps.

Should you sign up for Dark Web Monitoring? 02/11/2025

Should you sign up for Dark Web Monitoring? Read our thoughts at ttonic.com

Dark Web Monitoring (DWM) involves a paid service which tells you whether your personal information has been leaked.

Hackers routinely target larger companies in an attempt to collect vast quantities of data. If they capture a list of usernames, emails, addresses, and possibly SSNs and credit card numbers – they can sell that information to someone else who may use it. They’ll need to sell it out of public view i.e. the Dark Web as an illegal data broker.

In terms of Dark Web Monitoring, it probably started like this: At some point, some sales/marketing exec saw one of these data leak lists and said “Hey, what if we told people their name was on this list? We could charge them for that info!”

Ninety-nine percent (99%) of the time, Dark Web Monitoring is a waste but there are some target markets that it may be useful.

IT Depot Services: We Love our Boxes 02/01/2025

IT Depot Services: We Love our Boxes
As the pandemic came to a close, IT warehouses looked like a hurricane had come through. Offices started reopening and one thing became clear – IT depot services weren’t going anywhere.

During the early rush to remote work, IT scrambled to get devices into employees’ hands. It was messy. Shipments were delayed, employees had trouble setting up their machines, and security concerns were a key focus.

Over time, IT grew to accommodate this as a standard workflow instead of an occasional pandemic driven one.

At this point, remote onboarding and offboarding are just another day in IT. The IT department is no longer treating this as a temporary adjustment and neither should you.

Microsoft 365 Device Registration & Conditional Access for Apple Devices 01/24/2025

How to: Microsoft 365 Device Registration & Conditional Access for Apple Devices

When working with a customer recently to implement JAMF Device Compliance with Entra, I noticed something unusual in their Conditional Access policy.

In addition to requiring device compliance and MFA, their policy also included the condition that devices be registered in Entra. This made me really think about the assumptions that come into play regarding device registration, and the mystery surrounding Apple devices.

This question led me to dive deeper into the purpose of device registration, how it fits into workflows like JAMF compliance reporting, and—most importantly—whether relying on registration alone creates vulnerabilities, especially in the context of token theft.

Guest Networks: They will help themselves if you don’t give them one.

"It’s still remains uncommon for organizations to have a guest network – particularly smaller ones. When there is no guest network, guess which network everyone and their brother will join? Although this might not seem like a big security risk, primary network passwords are often shared which leads to inappropriate devices in your secure work zone." (read more)
