Deane Dance Center and Sac Civic Ballet were founded by Barbara Crockett (founder of the Sacramento Ballet) and her daughter and son-in-law, San Francisco Ballet dancers Allyson Deane and Don Schwennesen. Sac Civic Ballet was founded in 1996 as an extension of the Deane Dance Center to give its beautiful young dancers more performing opportunities. Sac Civic Ballet continues to promote the art to aspiring dancers of all ages, believing that each dancer has something special to offer. Sac Civic Ballet conducts classes, rehearsals and performances to benefit these dancers by the beauty and discipline of classical dance. The heritage of classical ballet offers a wonderful expression of human emotions and adventures which allow young artists to fully understand themselves and appreciate their world. Since its inception, this young company has been able to produce The Story of Sleeping Beauty, Sweet Coppelia and The Story of Noah's Ark, all of which have given many challenging roles to all Company Members to develop and enhance their growing techniques.
Join us in wishing Sac Civic Ballet all the best in their virtual adjudication this evening! We are honored to continue the legacy of Barbara Crockett, co-founder of Regional Dance America & host of the first ever Pacific Festival in 1966.

Introducing Our 2023 “25 to Watch” What will the dance world of tomorrow be like? An answer—or several—might be illuminated by our annual list of dancers, choreographers and companies on the brink of skyrocketing.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to Stephen "tWitch" Boss's family and friends. And to the Alabama Dance Theatre family, where he was once a student. He was an inspiration to many and shared so much love and light with the dance community. He will be missed. Rest in Peace 🕊️

⭐️ NEW COMPANY • BALLET ECLECTICA ⭐️
Regional Dance America is excited to welcome Ballet Eclectica to the MidStates Region! Ballet Eclectica is directed by RDA alum Antonio Douthit-Boyd and they are based out of Saint Louis, Missouri. Scroll down to read Antonio Douthit-Boyd's personal experience with RDA! ⬇️
“As a former participant of RDA from 1998-2000 through Alexandra School of Ballet under the direction of Alexandra Zaharias, I found a new love and passion for ballet while forming lifelong friendships and a network of world-class artists that to this day, I am still connected with. RDA changed the direction of my life. During my time with RDA, I had the chance to take a masterclass with Ms. Lorraine Graves, former Prima Ballerina of The Dance Theatre of Harlem. Ms. Graves awarded me a full scholarship to study at the school for a summer intensive where I later became a soloist with the company and learned repertory from Artistic Director Emerita of Ailey II, Ms. Sylvia Waters. Ms. Waters taught us a section from Sinner Man from Alvin Ailey’s masterpiece Revelations, which I will never forget. I later went on to dance for the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater for twelve years as a principal artist. Joining RDA will allow me to give back to my community of dancers while showing them the endless possibilities, the sky is the limit, and theirs for the taking. Ballet Eclectica looks forward to years of learning and sharing with the RDA community, and we are honored to be a part of such a powerhouse of an organization.” - Antonio Douthit-Boyd

"There are many aspects of RDA which are transformative. However, as Artistic Director, my favorite is the one-on-one feedback we receive from the adjudicator. Their comments provide insight into the strengths and weaknesses of our program. This feedback allows us to continue to push our company dancers in the right direction both technically and artistically.
RDA/Northeast has provided the Dayton Dance Conservatory Company the opportunity to work with top notch choreographers. The exposure to new teachers, performance opportunities, and being surrounded by fellow dancers who share the same love of dance reinvigorates our own dancers' passion for the art form. In addition, the emerging choreographer performance night and the National Choreography Intensive have inspired many of our dancers to explore the choreographic process themselves.
Dayton Dance Conservatory Company is a part of RDA/Northeast because it is one of the best performance opportunities around. In addition, it provides a wonderful environment for the students to learn and grow from, as well as a place where they can network with some of the leading dance teachers and choreographers in the United States." - Kirsten Fricke, Dayton Dance Conservatory Company

We are sad to report on the passing of Regional Dance America co-founder Barbara Crockett just a month short of her 102nd birthday. The founder of the Pacific Regional Ballet Association, which later became Regional Dance America/Pacific, Barbara worked tirelessly for the regional dance movement across the United States. Her steadfast efforts helped to guarantee that regional dance spread coast to coast. Regional Dance America would not be the organization that it is today without the guidance and support of Barbara Crockett. Her warm and generous presence will be sorely missed by all.
