I want to share a quick story from our mastermind weekend in Dallas this past weekend. It was one of my favorite moments as a coach since we started this program 3 years ago.

This ludus was a special one because it was the 10th and final one for group 2. More than anything we all just wanted to share time together and enjoy each others company.

Friday night we drove NASCAR cars on Texas motor speedway. Amazing experience! Afterwards we were all hungry so we headed to a local bbq joint to grab dinner.

It was very obvious quickly that our reservation of 50 guys had overwhelmed the staff. We had 2 servers frantically trying to keep our appetizers coming and our drinks full.

After about 2 1/2 hours of waiting and only 1/3 of the food brought out, the manager came over and told me that the fryer and the grill had quit working and they weren’t going to be able to bring anyone else’s meals.

We had already decided an hour earlier that we were all going to do the $100 dinner club and leave a massive tip for the servers working so hard.

This was one of those moments that really showed me what this group is all about. I pulled everyone together and gave them the bad news and instead of having a bunch of hungry men complain and bitch and moan we all just took it in stride and laughed at the whole ordeal.

Then we pulled the 2 servers in and Told them we wanted to talk to them. I could tell they were scared, probably expecting to be yelled at anbiut the food. Instead we announced that we would be leaving them a $3000 tip to split between them and handed them the tip.

They were pretty emotional and they were genuinely confused at the whole thing. They couldn’t understand why we were all so happy and so generous considering the circumstances.

There truly wasn’t a single man in that joint with our group that wasn’t laughing and smiling ear to ear. I just sat back and took it in, so proud of this group of brothers. We headed to Whataburger and called it a night!

Successful people don’t achieve their goals because they’re fortunate, it’s because they use a formula.

Ten men in my coaching group, We Are The They, lost a combined 431 pounds this past year. Every single one shed 25 pounds or more.

It wasn’t luck, it was a system.

Goal-setting only works if you do it the right way.

If you keep yourself accountable.

If you know your “why.” If you realize that you control the outcome. Don’t do it wrong again this year, let’s do it together.

My annual goal-setting seminar is only ONE WEEK away:

Date: December 27th
Time: 12 PM Mountain Standard Time
Registration: Free! (Link in Comments)

Building a life by design is a no-lose strategy. Getting clear on what you want gives you a daily north star and often leads to exceeding what you set out to do. And even in areas where you might fall short of your ambitious goals, you’ll have made progress towards YOUR vision.

Those ten men set a vision for their year…

“I want to be healthy for my family.”

“I want to move from unaware to self-aware with my health.”

“I want to be able to do the things I want to do for as long as I can.”

This wasn’t idle talk, this was the first step in a formula that produced results. A formula I’m giving away to you for free.

Here’s what you can expect:

- A proven blueprint for setting and achieving your goals.

- Insider strategies from some of the best minds in the business (I’ll be pulling in special guests).

- An opportunity to connect with a community of achievers.'

- A strong vision for your year ahead

We all know the drill as we approach the new year…

Step 1: Set an ambitious resolution

Step 2: Feel motivated for a few weeks

Step 3: Falter on our unsustainable plans and feel bad about it

Step 4: Justify why we should quit our resolution

Step 5: Forget steps 1-4 so you can do it again next year

What’s the point?

Luckily, there’s another way to create sustainable change: Raising Your Standards.

A standard represents an ongoing commitment to improvement. Instead of vague and unrealistic resolutions, a standard is a set of values and aspirations that can be applied across any situation. A resolution to “not eat any sugar” can be lost with a single slice of cake. A standard of eating healthy looks at the bigger picture and leaves room for fixing when we’ve stumbled.

Me personally, I want to set a new standard for modern masculinity. A standard that allows for expressing emotions in a healthy way. A standard that celebrates powerful men who are protectors of their loved ones. A standard of connection that is the antidote to toxicity.

My coaching group, We Are The They, is this standard in action. It’s a community that allows men to be comfortable with themselves, but holds them accountable to being their best selves. We make commitments to one another that hold strong when flimsy resolutions fade away.

Whatever standards and accountability methods you choose, keep these things in mind when thinking about the approaching new year:

Embrace a growth mindset: Resolutions often focus on specific outcomes, which can lead to discouragement when setbacks occur. Instead, adopt a growth mindset and focus on continuous improvement.

Create a culture of excellence: Whether with your family, with your coworkers or other groups like WATT, setting standards creates a baseline level of performance that everyone is expected to meet. Having a group around you drives accountability and motivation.

Focus on sustainable change: Setting standards means creating a system of habits, routines, and processes that support continuous improvement.

Shift from external to internal motivation: Sustainable change comes from the inside. When you set a standard, you’re making a promise to yourself to uphold your personal values and aspirations. No trophy needed.

Need some extra help? Join me at my annual Goal Setting and Yearly Planning event. I’ve been fine-tuning this process for years and it’s a step-by-step process for setting standards across all aspects of your life and how to take action to meet them.

Do you want to know the secret to getting into the best shape of your life?

Start with your feelings, not the free-weights.

After very personal struggles with my physical health, and talking with hundreds of men like me, I’ve seen a clear connection between my body and my overall integrity.

If I found myself in a place of insecurity, shame or fear, my weight would skyrocket. Why? Because I sought out things to make me “feel better” (junk food, alcohol, TV) instead of things to make me “feel more” (being uncomfortable in the gym, proving I could have fun without booze).

You’ve got to feel it, to heal it.

My new book, Be One: How to Be a Healthy Man in Toxic Times, (pre-order now) has an entire chapter (excerpt below) on what it looks like to stop trying to feel better and start trying to feel more.

I’ll give you the confidence to put down the phone, chips and video games and face up to the feelings that are coming in between you and a passionate life.

Tony Robbins said it best, “When you have your health, you have a million other wants, but when you don’t have your health, you just have one.”

Don’t wait to live a life with more energy, vision and courage. Start now.

You’re worth it,

Excerpt from Be One: How to Be a Healthy Man in Toxic Times (Chapter 3, “Be a Warrior”)

I don’t workout because I hate my body. I workout because I love it, and so should you. Masquerading unhealthiness as "self-love" or other excuses will only lead to illness, not wellness. There’s an agenda to normalize obesity which is devastating to adults and especially children.

When I became vulnerable about my insecurities, and honest with myself about what needed to change, I took the first step towards getting into integrity with my body, mind, and soul. I was on the path of the warrior.

Technically, a warrior is someone who wages war, but truly, a warrior is someone who is capable of protecting the kingdom at all costs, because he trains. Every day he takes up his sword, but never to harm. Every day he refines his craft, but never to prove himself. Every day he gets a little bit stronger and a little bit faster, because he knows he’ll need it when he’s tested. He does this every single day because he knows, one day, a threat to his kingdom's well being will come, and he must be prepared for an attack on his integrity. Instead of chasing after a fight or looking for a challenge, he keeps his sword sheathed, knowing exactly what he is capable of.

A warrior knows his true self, because he trains every single day, making steady progress. A true warrior does not train from a place of fear or insecurity. Warriors who train from a position of devotion, growth, patience, and virtue are the ones who reap the rewards of the entire process.

Every Christmas, we all stress about finding that perfect gift.

The one they will cherish, the one they will get emotional over, the one they will keep close to them all year...

The only problem is that the gift is tough to find.

Some years, it is easier than others... You had a pet pass away, and you got an art piece done to remember them. You had an incredible moment or achievement that someone gets recreated through a personalized gift like a blanket or a mug.

This may be the year you want to focus on making memories, so instead of a big commercialized Christmas, you take the whole family on a lifetime vacation.

For me, gift-giving is a love language.

Admittedly, I need to be better at receiving gifts, which I have been working on.

Gift-giving is an art, and I love to be an artist.

Sometimes I buy Christmas presents during the Summer to have enough time to get them here. Other years, I forget til the last minute and overspend on something I know they will at least love and appreciate.

The best gifts I have ever given, though, are the gifts of knowledge. I’ve had more people contact me months and years later, telling me how my Christmas gift changed their lives. The secret is that I send about 300 books yearly to my top clients and close friends. I pick the book that has impacted me the most over the previous year and send it to them, hoping it does the same for them.

One year, my friend Andy and I were having dinner around the fall, and he just looked at me and said, “Have you read that book that you sent me for Christmas? It saved my marriage and changed my whole life!”

Thank you, Tim Ferris, for helping me look like a gift-giving hero. I have several examples similar to this of friends of mine sharing appreciation for the book I sent them that holiday season.

Don’t overthink it this Christmas season...

Want to give a gift that will impact the people you love the most? Send them the book you read this year that had the most significant effect on you. If you aren’t much of a reader or don’t know where to start, here are a few books I’ve sent over the years…
Atomic Habits
Unshakeable by Tony Robbins
The Four Agreements
Start With Why
Daring Greatly
Green Lights
Tools for Titans
You End Up Where You’re Heading by Jimmy Rex

Yes, I sent out my book, and I will shamelessly plug it into this blog.

It has already led hundreds of people to leave their comfort zone and live a more extraordinary life.

My new book, “Be One- How to be a Healthy Man in Toxic Times,” will be released this February. If you want to order some for your friends and family, here is the bulk order link. I know this book will change lives. Specifically for the men in your lives, this book is a must-read. If you have been following our social movement, “We Are The They,” then you know how life-transforming this book can be.

Not everyone can afford to join the coaching program, so this book was necessary. I share the same life-changing skills, stories, and exercises so that every man, whether a member of my community or not, can experience a transformation and leave behind his limiting fears, bad habits, and negative relationships.

If you want to gift the book to several of your friends, I have created a special page for bulk book orders...

Here is the link: https://bit.ly/jr-be-christmas

They won’t get the book til February, but we will send you a small item and card so that they get an actual gift for Christmas and they know the book is coming soon.

If you gift your family and friends this life-changing book, it would mean the world to me. Maybe you will be sitting at dinner 8 or 9 months from now when your friend says, “Remember that book you sent me? BE ONE? It changed my life!”
