It is never to early to get your feet ready for next summer, but it can be too late. On average, it takes about one year for the fungal nails to completely grow you and the clear healthy nails to grow in. Laser actually works!

Nowadays I am offering weekday and early afternoon appointments. See you soon!

Dry between your toes. Fungus looooveeee moist, damp, dry, dark places. If you need help, ask a loved one to help. Live alone? Can’t reach your feet? Your loved one doesn’t like to touch your feet? 😂 Buy a grasper gadget and use dry gauze or tissues to dry in between them.

Moist, damp, dark slippers are a breeding ground for fungus. Wearing the same slippers day after day will definitely increase chances of toenail fungus and athlete’s foot!

Corns and calluses are hard, thickened areas of skin that form as a result of friction or pressure on the skin. Corns and calluses develop naturally to help protect the skin underneath them.

Calluses can develop anywhere on the body where there is repeated friction, such as a guitar player’s fingertips or a mechanic’s palms. Corns develop due to bone pressure against the skin. They are common on the tops and sides of the toes and on the balls of the feet. Corns can be hard and dry or soft and mushy. Common causes of corns are arthritis or poorly-fitting shoes.
If you are diabetic, do not attempt to remove your corn.

Exercising your feet on a regular basis not only improves overall foot health, but may also reduce your risk for injury. Walking is the best overall foot exercise. When you walk, you put your foot through its full range of motion, from the time your heel hits the ground until you lift off with your toes. Moreover, walking is one of the best forms of exercise for your entire body. It improves your cardiovascular health and can help your circulation, muscle tone, and mood.

Regularly exercising and stretching the feet and ankles can help ensure that the muscles are providing the best support. These exercises may also increase range of motion in the feet, helping keep a person active for as long as possible.

Diabetic ulcers are the most common foot injuries leading to lower extremity amputation. Family physicians have a pivotal role in the prevention or early diagnosis of diabetic foot complications. Management of the diabetic foot requires a thorough knowledge of the major risk factors for amputation, frequent routine evaluation and meticulous preventive maintenance.

If you’re suffering from diabetes then you probably know the importance of managing your blood sugar levels to avoid serious complications such as poor blood flow and nerve damage which can lead to sores or ulcers on the feet. If you have diabetes then it’s critical to take steps to help prevent diabetic foot ulcers from forming or to prevent them from getting worse. Uncontrolled diabetes can lead to neuropathy (numbness in the feet) which can lead to a foot wound and result in amputation.

Running Shoes may look like other sneakers, but they contain specialized technology to help you run. In running, your foot hits the ground in basically the same way with each step. Unlike sneakers, running shoes are designed to prevent injury from that repetitive motion by offering specific cushioning to aid in shock absorption, as well as design features to help move you forward with greater ease.

If you only consider one factor when selecting a running shoe, it should be how it fits. A running shoe that doesn't fit right will not only make your running experience painful, it could also lead to potential injury.

If you’re dealing with chronic heel pain, one likely culprit is plantar fasciitis. It’s a common foot injury that can cause a stabbing pain in the bottom of your foot near the heel. It sometimes resolves on its own, but there are a few simple home treatments that also can help.

The plantar fascia is a band of deep tissue that runs from your heel bone to your toes. Plantar fasciitis is a deformation or a tear of that tissue. It causes irritation, inflammation, and, eventually, pain.

Ankle injuries can take you off the court, field, or track for weeks or even months. If you don’t heal correctly, you risk recurrent injuries that limit your progress and potential as an athlete.

At 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐧𝐞 𝐏𝐨𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐫𝐲 in Washington DC, we see people come in with ankle sprains, strains, and fractures caused during training or competition, which could have been avoided with a few simple steps. Though accidents and injuries will always happen, smart behavior and precautions minimize your risk of ankle injury.

Bunions occur when the tissue at the base of your big toe becomes swollen, forming a large bump on the side of your foot. Bunions can cause intense foot pain and may eventually lead to arthritis. Fortunately, the majority of bunions can be managed without surgery.

Special foot exercises "will not get rid of the bunion because the bunion is a biomechanical deformity, but they can relieve symptoms and increase flexibility," explains 𝗗𝗿. 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗲 𝗠𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮, 𝗗𝗣𝗠, podiatrist in Washington, DC.

Ouch! Having flat feet is definitely not fun. A flat foot occurs when the arch of the foot is collapsed, and the entire foot can completely touch the ground.

Flat foot is sometimes caused by abnormal foot development (such as in someone with no arch present). Or it can be hereditary, the result being a flattened arch.

Other causes of flat foot include things such as arthritis, bone fractures or even torn tendons. No matter the cause of flat foot, it can result in some bad foot pain.
